Burial will follow in the Oakvale Cemetery. John Dove Masonic Lodge #78 will conduct graveside rites. on April 26, 1999.5 He PRINCETON - A 1,000-pound log tumbled from the back of a truck this weekend, crushing a man to death in Southern West Virginia. Larry Stephen Brown, 46, died Saturday from chest and abdominal injuries he suffered in the morning accident, said Trooper M.R. Crowder of the State Police in Princeton. The accident occurred in the Greasy Ridge area of the Mercer County city. Brown owned Brown's Timbering and Trucking Inc. He was working with others to load the truck when the truck backed up and the log fell off, Crowder said. The accident remains under investigation, he said. on April 26, 1999.1

He was a former barber, worked on the railroad, was a disabled coal miner with Consolidation Coal Company and was a member of the UMWA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel M. Whitlow. Survivors: his loving children, Danny Ray Whitlow of Kellysville; James Edward Whitlow and Timothy Lee Whitlow, both of Princeton, and Linda Miller of Princeton; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one sister, Clarice Boseman of North Carolina; four brothers, Dean Whitlow of Ohio, Larry Whitlow of Peterstown, Benny Whitlow of Rich Creek, Va., and Jay Whitlow of Kellysville. Burial will follow at Athens Cemetery. on September 25, 2000.3

Mowry, Jr; siblings, Bill Whitlow, Willard Whitlow, Bubby Whitlow, and Wilmoth Whitlow Gibbs; her first husband and father to her children, Karl N. Mowry, Sr; and her second husband, Bert Carden. Her surviving family includes her daughter and caretaker, Amber Spikes and husband, Jimmy; daughter-in-law, Nancy Mowry; grandchildren, Shannon Turner and husband, Mitch, Shane Spikes and wife, Khym, Seth Mowry, Amanda Spikes, Brian Spikes, and Erin Schmacher; great-grandchildren, Alayna and Kylie Turner, Gage Mowry, and Easton (affectionately known by Ruth as "My baby") Spikes; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Snyder Nursing Home for their loving care. A period of visitation will begin at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 25, 2016 in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem with the funeral service following at 2 p.m. Interment will immediately follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The Rev. Marshall Allen and Mitch Turner will officiate. on November 23, 2016.6

(Bud) Stewart; four brothers, James Whitlow, Caudill Whitlow, Lonnie Whitlow and John Whitlow; and three sisters, Maggie Turner, Doris Clemmons, and Lola Gills. Frances was a member of Blountville Church of God in Blountville, Tennessee and a former member of the National Church of God in Washington, D.C. She is survived by three sisters, Polly Hodge and husband Harry of Blacksburg, Virginia, Faye Smith and husband Allen of Lake Wales, Florida, and Brownie Sinclair of Clinton, North Carolina; a brother-in-law, Sidney Gills of Lake Wales, Florida; numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks is extended to a special nephew, Calvin Turner of Narrows, who cared for Frances for 11 years, and to a special niece, Patricia Stewart of Kingsport for the care given to her. Burial will follow in Roselawn Burial Park in Princeton, West Virginia. on March 28, 2007.2

     Ida Pauline Syres was buried at Sunrise Memorial Gardens, Rich Creek, Giles Co., Virginia.2,4 She was born on November 8, 1918 at Rock, Mercer Co., West Virginia.2,4 As of January 30, 1942,her married name was Whitlow.3 She married Willard Wanlas Whitlow, son of George Willie Whitlow and Jennie Lind Weeks, on January 30, 1942 at Pearisburg, Giles Co., Virginia.1,2,3 Ida Pauline Syres died on October 6, 2015 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 96.2 She Ida Pauline Whitlow, 96, of Rich Creek, passed away, Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, Va. Born November 8, 1918 at Rock, W.Va. she was the daughter of the late Lawson Wayne and Rosa Belle Bailey Syres. Mrs. Whitlow was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rich Creek, Va. and was a homemaker. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-five years, Willard W. Whitlow; five brothers and five sisters. She was the last surviving member of her family. Left to cherish her memories are: five daughters, Pam Stables and husband, Bill, of Narrows, Va., Margie Turner and husband, Doug of Pearisburg, Va., Brenda Hendrickson and husband, Finley, of Danville, Ky., Linda Hager and husband, Rodger, of Charleston, W.Va., Paula Lee and husband, Greg, of Narrows, Va; two sisters in law, Ruth Carden, of Roanoke, Va. and Maxine Syres, of Rock, W.Va; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; several nieces; nephews and two loving caregivers, Gladys Sears and Sharon Fisher. Burial will follow in the Sunrise Memorial Gardens, Rich Creek, Va. on October 8, 2015.2

     William Herbert "Bill" Stables William Herbert Stables - It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Bill. He went to be with the Lord at Carilion Giles Community Hospital on Saturday, August 29, 2020. Bill was born in Narrows, VA, on October 4, 1928 to the late Jesse James Stables and Rosa Leah Turner Stables. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jim, John and Bob Stables and two sisters, Gladys Blankenship and Margaret Stables. He graduated from Narrows High School in 1946 and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving his country for five years. He served in Korea and was a Chosin Reservoir survivor. Upon returning home, Bill entered law enforcement, first as a Deputy Sheriff, a Narrows town police officer, then retiring as a special investigator for the Giles County Sheriff's Office. He attended the First Baptist Church in Rich Creek as long as he was able. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Pamela Whitlow Stables of Narrows, son, William Troy Stables, Ret. USMC (Sandra) of Goose Creek, SC, four granddaughters; Erica Walker (Lenny), Caitlyn Painter (Zachary), Cristina Stables and Mimi Smith (Randy), four great granddaughters; Amiah, Nakenzi, Luna and Hannah, three great grandsons; Alex, Randy, and Koda and extended family of nieces and nephews. Two special nieces, Bobbie Sue Hare and Betty & Roger McCroskey who helped in every way possible with his care.
