He was preceded in death by one son, two brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave., Wabash, with Russ Howard, Rick Alvey, and Doug Oates officiating. Guenin (Kay) of LaFontaine, Indiana, Tammy (Chad) Kennedy of Bourbon, Indiana, Missy West of Texas, Kari (Clif) Airgood of Lincolnville, Indiana, Alissa (Mark) Deeter of Wabash, Indiana, and Derek (Kasey) Peebles of Bunker Hill, Indiana; 17 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She is most well known by her family for being the best noodle maker ever. She loved having family dinners and having her family near. Dorothy is survived by five daughters, Ann (Tim) Clary, Grayslake, Illinois, Gloria (David) Shenefield, LaFontaine, Jennifer ( Greg) Finch, Fort Wayne, Monica (Craig) Sparling, Lagro, Christine (Terry) McLain, Swayzee; brother, Donald (Betty) Howard, Fort Wayne; sister, Betty Guenin, LaFontaine; grandchildren, BJ (Mecca) White, Jodi (Brent) Isbell, Ashli White (Pete Jones), Denise (Troy) Bickley, Julie (Kyle) Shoemaker, Jill (Judson) Everitt, Kate Clary, John Clary and Stefanie Thompson; and great grandchildren, Zach, Kaila, Taylor White, Mia Cunningham, Jacob Bickley, Kati and Matthew Isbell, Christian and Drew Shoemaker, Etournatee and Konstantlee Jones. She was preceded in death by grandson, Casey Sparling; brothers, Johnny Howard, Russell Howard, Robert Howard, and Richard Howard; sisters, Mary Alice Owen and Ruth Calender. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 3, 2011 in McDonald Funeral Home, LaFontaine Chapel, 104 S. Main Street, LaFontaine, Indiana with Pastor Rick Smalling officiating the services. Burial will follow in the LaFontaine IOOF Cemetery in LaFontaine, Indiana.6 She was buried at I.O.O.F. Mass of Christian Burial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Marion, 1031 Kem Road, Marion, with Father Christopher officiating. He was born in Wabash, Ind., on March 31, 1930, the son of the late Maurice and Jennie Reed. John grew up on a farm, where he learned to rise early and work hard. He served in the United States Army at Fort Knox. He married Marlene Bouse in 1955, graduated from Purdue University, and began work as a high school science teacher. For two years, he and Marlene taught agriculture and home economics in Kisumu, Kenya. He worked in management and sales for Allis-Chalmers for 20 years in Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Virginia. His family moved to Roanoke in 1977, and owned and operated Curry Copy Center in downtown Roanoke until his retirement in 1997. John was a very talented and creative craftsman, with a special gift for making beautiful and practical art including stained glass, wrought iron, and woodwork. No one he met remained a stranger for long. He was an active volunteer for churches and charities, where he gave freely of his time and talents. He was a true original. John was preceded in death by his first wife of 45 years, Marlene; and his sister, Ruth Long. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of the last 10 years, Lucy Phillips Reed; son, Greg Reed and daughter- in-law, Beth and their sons, Joseph, Kaleb, and Chance; daughter, Teresa and son-in-law, Tim Parry, and their children, Bess, Brooke, and Jacob; and great-grandsons, Ryder and John; daughter, Judi and son-in-law, Paul Anderson, and their sons, Drew, Tyler and Blake; sisters, Mary Lou Kendall, Helen Dawes, Dorothy Brouhard, and Nancy Meyer; brother, Max Reed; and countless other family members and friends. on December 6, 2012.2

Bob is survived by three sons, Robert Joseph "Joe" Sirk (Alys) of Angola, Indiana, Jim Sirk (Betty) of Marion, Indiana, and Flava Sirk (Leah) of Sweetser, Indiana; one daughter, Sue (David) Landaw of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandchildren, Scott Sirk of Fishers, Indiana, Joel Keefer of Bloomington, Tony Sirk of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Ryan Sirk of Marion, Indiana, Joseph Sirk of Cleveland, Ohio, Kristen Sirk of New York City, New York, and Kaitlyn Sallee of Indianapolis, Indiana; great-grandchildren, Kate, Scotty, Mike, Jake, and Chloe Sirk, and Frank and Bret Keefer. Bob was preceded in death by brothers, Jim Sirk and infant, Joseph Reed Sirk and a grandson, Timothy H. Sirk. He was a U.S. Army World War II Veteran. His wife, Alice G. (Luginbill) Sirk, of Fort Wayne, whom he wed, Dec. 3, 1950, at the Bethel Brethren Church in Berne, survives. Also surviving are sons, James Wylie (and Jeanine) Sirk II of Decatur, Frederic (and Lori) Sirk of Hoagland; brother, John Robert Sirk of Marion; grandson, James Wylie Sirk III of Decatur; granddaughters, Rachel M. Sirk and Emily R. Sirk, both of Decatur; grandsons, Nicholas A. Sirk and Joshua B. Sirk, both of New Haven; granddaughter, Brittany A. Sirk of New Haven; grandson, Derek J. Morris of Hoagland; and great-granddaughter, Abigayle Sirk of New Haven. He was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Alan Sirk, as an infant, in 1955, and brother, Joseph Sirk. Service is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, with Pastor Stephen Leininger officiating. Merritt Lincoln Keith Gillespie MERRITT KEITH GILLESPIE, 20, radio man and gunner on a B-17 bomber, was presumed dead by the War Department after all efforts to learn his fate had failed. His damaged plane was last seen Nov. 5, 1943 over the west coast of France. Sgt. Gillespie was the son of Mrs. Faye Gillespie, Wabash, and had enlisted in the Air Corps Nov. 2, 1942 going overseas in September 1943.4 He was born on February 13, 1923 at Marion, Grant Co., Indiana.2 He died on November 5, 1943 at off the coast of France at age 20.4
