She was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Nora Sue and Dan Spangler. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, William E. James; her daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and John Dinan, of Calif; granddaughters and their husbands, Denise and Gary Handley, Traci and Ray Valderaz, all of Calif., Karie and Brandon Wade, and Katie and Eric Holfield, all of Floyd; great-grandchildren, Raymond Valderaz, Madelyn Valderaz, Karleigh Wade, and Preslie Holfield; as well as special friend, James Conley. The service will be held at 11 A.M. on Thursday, April 25, 2013, in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with family receiving friends one hour prior to the service.      Nora Sue James was buried at Jacksonville Burial Ground, Rt. 8, 0.25 miles south of Floyd, Floyd Co., Virginia.⁴ She was born on February 10, 1950 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.^4,8,6,7 As of December 11, 1971,her married name was Wirt.⁸ She married Ford Smiley Wirt on December 11, 1971 at Christiansburg, Montgomery Co., Virginia.⁸ Nora Sue James and Ford Smiley Wirt were divorced on March 29, 1985 at Floyd Co., Virginia.⁷ As of August 9, 1986,her married name was Spangler.⁸ Nora Sue James married George Daniel "Dan" Spangler Jr. on August 9, 1986 at Floyd Co., Virginia.^1,2,3,4,8 Nora Sue James died on December 31, 2011 at Virginia at age 61.^3,4 She FLOYD - Nora Sue James Spangler, 61, passed away December 31, 2011 after a courageous fight with cancer. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dan Spangler. Survivors include: father and mother, Billy and Mary Anne James; sister, Dianne Dinan and husband John; daughters and sons-in- law, Karie and Brandon Wade, and Katie and Eric Holfield; step-sons, George Spangler and special friend Michelle Ouellette, and Brian and wife Melissa Spangler; grandchildren, Karleigh Wade, Preslie Holfield, Heather, Liz, and Camden Spangler; great-grandchild Nigel; and her loving and faithful companion dog Rocky. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at the Floyd United Methodist Church with Rev. Roy Turpin and Rev. Gene Koger officiating. Dan was very passionate about his career as a local car dealer where he became known as the "Dealer Who Cares." Dan was a people person and loved chatting with all his friends and customers at the dealership. His loving heart touched so many over the years. He is preceded in death by his parents, G.D. and Maude Spangler. Survivors include his devoted wife of 24 years, Nora Sue Spangler; sons, George Spangler and special friend, Michelle Ouellette, and Brian and wife, Melissa Spangler; daughters and sons-in-law, Karie and Brandon Wade, and Katie and Eric Holfield; grandchildren, Heather, Liz, and Camden Spangler and Karleigh Wade; and great-grandchild, Nigel. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Maberry's Funeral Home in Floyd. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 24, 2010, from 5 to 9 p.m. The funeral will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 25 2010, at the funeral home with the Rev. Roy Turpin and the Rev. Gene Koger officiating. Interment to follow at Jacksonville Cemetery. on August 24, 2010.⁴

     Rebecca Dianne James was born on July 25, 1945 at Christiansburg, Montgomery Co., Virginia.^4,6 As of January 11, 1964,her married name was Dinan.⁵ She married John R. Dinan on January 11, 1964 at San Diego, San Diego Co., California.^1,2,3,5,6 Rebecca Dianne James died on February 7, 2015 at Riverbank, Stanislaus Co., California, at age 69.⁶ She Rebecca Dianne Dinan, 1945 - 2015. Rebecca, age 69, passed away Saturday February 7th, at her home in Riverbank, CA after a long battle against cancer. Rebecca was born in 1945 in Christiansburg, VA, the daughter of William and Mary Anne James. Upon her graduation from Christiansburg High School in 1963, she joined the U. S. Navy and was stationed in San Diego, CA, where she met her husband and best friend, John Dinan, in November 1963. John and Rebecca were married on January 11, 1964 in San Diego, CA. She was honorably discharged from the Navy shortly thereafter, upon learning of the pending arrival of their first child. They travelled together, living the Navy life, from San Diego to Hawaii to Rhode Island, settling in Southern California upon John's honorable discharge from the Navy in 1969. There they enjoyed raising their 2 daughters and making many happy memories. In 1980, the family moved to San Jose, CA and continued to make those happy memories. Rebecca enjoyed her work as an Administrative Assistant at Advanced Micro Devices in Sunnyvale until her retirement in 2000. In 2005, John and Rebecca relocated to Riverbank, CA so they could be close to their 2 grandchildren. They enjoyed going out to lunch, travelling, and just being with each other and their family. Rebecca is survived by her husband John, her father William James of Christiansburg, VA, her children Denise and Gary Hendliy of Trinidad, CA and Traci and Ray Valderaz of Riverbank, CA and her grandchildren Raymond and Madelyn Valderaz. She was preceded in death by her Mother, Mary Anne James, and her sister Nora Sue Spangler. Services will be private. on February 12, 2015.⁶
