Sarah Frances "Sallie" Snodgrass Mrs. Sarah F. Elmore died at the home of her son, Shirley Elmore, of Tariff, Monday night at 12 o'clock, death resulting from burns which she received when her clothing caught fire from the gas stove as she was preparing noon meal. Mrs. Elmore, who was 89 years of age, was the wife of A. J. Elmore, deceased, with whom she came to Roane county about 42 years ago from Cecil county, Virginia. The deceased was the mother of twelve children, those surviving being J. O., J. A. Jr., J. W. and K. S. Elmore, all of Tariff; Mrs. Hallie Surface, of Richwood, W. Va; Mrs. Lula Laughlin, Mrs. Lucy Barger and Jennie Hartline, all of Akron, Ohio, Anderson Snodgrass, a brother, of Delta, Pa., and several half brothers also survive, who with her children and the many friend to whom she had endeared herself, mourn the passing of a worthy life which was snatched so tragically from their midst. Mrs. Elmore was a woman of high standing and influence in the community and she reared her children to be useful citizens. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. J. Herby Smith, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, interment following in the Tariff cemetery. on May 9, 1930.2 She died on May 26, 1930 at Tariff, Roane Co., West Virginia, at age 78.3,2

O. (Ott) Elmore, 83, prominent Roane County farmer and stockman and former Roane County assessor, died yesterday at his home at Tariff after an extended illness. Mr. Elmore, a native of Virginia, had resided in Roane Counly for 76 years. Last March 7 he and his wife, Mary Looney Elmore, who survives, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. He was a former Roane County teacher and secretary of the board of education. Mr. Elmore had been affiliated with the Masonic Lodge for 53 years, had served as master and secretary of Linden Masonic Lodge and was a member of Scottish Rite bodies and Beni Kedem Temple of the Shrine in Charleston He was a member of the Henry's Fork Baptist Church at Tariff. In addition to Mrs. Elmore, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Mary Louise Rardon of Indianapolis, Ind; sons, Earl L. Elmore of Charleston, managing director of he West Virginia Chamber of Commerce, Gene F. of, Spencer and Otmer of Orlando, Fla; sisers, Mrs. Hallie Surface of Richwood, Mrs. Lucy Hartline of Akron, Ohio; brothers, J. W. Elmore of Spencer and H. J. of Tarff; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Sinnett Funeral Home here, the Rev. Edward Wolfe officiating. Burial will be in Clover Cemetery, with Masonic graveside rites. The body is at the funeral home. on October 2, 1963.13

Six sons, Glen of Parkersburg, Don of Left Hand, Clarence of Spencer, Brooks of Dayton, Ohio and Howard and Doyle at home. Three sisters, Mrs. Hallie Surface of Fenwick, Mrs. Lucy Bartsch and Mrs. Jennie Hartline, both of Akron. Three brothers, J. O. and H. J. of Tariff and J. W. of Spencer; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services will be conducted Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the Henry’s Fork Baptist Church with Rev. H. B. Strickland officiating. Burial will be in the Clover cemetery with Sinnett Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. He was born Dec. 19, 1903, in Tariff, Roane County, son of the late Jacob Ott and Mary Jane Looney Elmore. In his youth, Earle lived in a log house, worked on the family farm and attended a one-room school. He graduated from Spencer High School and then attended Capital City Commerce College. He also worked for a coal company in Boomer, the Viking Gasoline Company in Charleston, and attended West Virginia University, where he acquired his bachelor's and master's degrees in 1932 and 1934. For a short time in the early 1930s, Earle worked for the Soil Erosion Service in Spencer, planting black walnut trees that are now the focus of the Roane County Black Walnut Festival. He attended Morris Harvey College night school and received a bachelor of science degree in accounting in 1953, graduating cum laude. He was elected to honor societies Sigma Pi Sigma (physics), Phi Lambda Upsilon (chemistry) and Phi Beta Phi (general science), as well as social fraternities Delta Kappa Psi and the Mu Alpha chapter of Phi Gamma Delta. In 1933-34, he was a member of what was known as Governor Herman Guy Kump's "brain trust," an organization helping West Virginia out of financial difficulties. He later worked for the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce, taking three years leave for service in the U.S. Navy during World War II, returning with the rank of lieutenant commander, U.S.N.R. He then resumed his work with the Chamber of Commerce, becoming managing director in 1959, retiring in 1968. Earle started the publication The West Virginia Business Index. Earle has been listed in "Who's Who in the East" and "Who's Who in Commerce and Industry." He also received the Outstanding West Virginian award in 1983 from Gov. John D. Rockefeller IV. He is survived by a brother and spouse, Gene Francis and Virginia Elmore; a sister, Mary Louise Reardon; several nieces, nephews and cousins, including Phoebe and Oscar Schubert, of Morgantown; two close friends, George R. Seller, D.V.M., Tait Hatcher; and many other friends and caregivers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta Beall Elmore, in 1997; a sister, Maxine Elmore; and two brothers, Paul Andrew Elmore and Joseph Otmer Elmore. Friends may call at Hastings Funeral Home on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Thursday, May 8, 2003, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. J. William Turley officiating. Entombment will follow in the Allegheny County Memorial Park Cemetery in Allison, Pa. Donations may be made in his memory to WVU Foundation for Pre-veterinary Medicine Students, One Waterfront Place, Morgantown, WV 26505.

Elmore Sr., local historian and genealogist, died Friday, May 9, 2003, in Welcome Home Care, Spencer. He was born Aug. 14, 1910, at Tariff, a son of the late Jacob Ott and Mary Jane Looney Elmore. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gene F. Elmore Jr; three brothers, Joseph Otmer, Paul and Earle; one sister, Ula Maxine. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Hunt Elmore, whom he married May 17, 1935; two daughters, Sondra Leigh Reger of Finksburg, Md., and Virginia Lynn Vine of Pawleys Island, S.C; one sister, Mary Louise Rardon of Indianapolis, Ind; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Elmore was a 50-year member of the Linden Lodge No. 83 AF & 003, at 9 aAM, Linden and the Wetzel Chapter No. 27, Order of the Eastern Star, Spencer. Mr. Elmore was graduated from Spencer High School in 1932, and was a member of the Harmony Boys local singing group. He attended Glenville State College and West Virginia University, where he majored in journalism and joined Kappa Delta Psi, was a member of the marching band and the ROTC. Mr. Elmore worked with the CCC throughout West Virginia. He took many photographs of this work, which have been combined into a book. He joined the Navy during World War II and trained at the Great Lakes facility. He then served at Corpus Christi, Texas, as an artc/3c and attended Houston University. He was a member of the local amateur radio club. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 21, Spencer. Mr. Elmore was employed as an Internal Revenue agent from the Charleston-Ripley-Parkersburg region. After his retirement, he worked for a time with Hays and Co., Spencer. Mr. Elmore has researched many branches of his and his wife's families and has generously shared this information with others throughout the United States. He was also a member of Roane County Historical Society. A funeral service will be conducted Monday, May 12, at 2 p.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer with the Rev. J. Herbert Smith and the Rev. Lester Walker officiating. Burial with Masonic graveside rites will be in the Clover Cemetery, Clover. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, May 11. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Roane General Hospital Auxiliary. on May 11, 2003.6

High School, and a proud alumnus of West Virginia University and member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She received her MA in Education from Butler University. Mary and Ralph A. Rardon married on March 15, 1946. He preceded her in death in 1960. Mary raised their three children while serving as the head of the Washington High School Home Economics Department, a position she held for 30 years. She was director of a vocational foods program. As a devoted teacher, she encouraged teens to make responsible life choices and inspired those she taught by example. She also worked part-time as a dietician at Methodist Hospital. After her retirement, she was an active volunteer at the Indianapolis Children's Museum and the Conner Prairie Gift Shop. Mary enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching birds and sports, and was a huge Colts fan. She traveled extensively with Ambassadair and Elderhostel, and satisfied her life-long love of learning through classes with OASIS. Mary lived independently, and loved visits from her children, their spouses, and her grandchildren. Mary is survived by children Joan L. Fairlie (Chester), Dr. David P. Rardon (Karen Mahakian), and Kathryn A. Dawe (Brad), as well as 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and one expected great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 23rd at 11 a.m. at Broad Ripple United Methodist Church, 6185 Guilford Ave., Indianapolis. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service. A graveside service will be held at Clover Cemetery in West Virginia at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Earthquake Recovery Fund, co Hospice St. Joseph, 1595 Norwich New London Turnpike, Uncasville, Conn. 06382.      Her Social Security Number was 234-50-8662.5 Virginia Sophia Hunt was buried at Clover Cemetery, Clover, Roane Co., West Virginia.3 She was born on June 26, 1916 at Wanego, Roane Co., West Virginia.2,5,3,4 She married Gene Francis Elmore Sr., son of Jacob Ott Elmore and Mary Jane Looney, on May 17, 1935 at Walton, Roane Co., West Virginia.2,6,3,4 As of May 17, 1935,her married name was Elmore.2 Virginia Sophia Hunt died on June 28, 2010 at Westminster, Carroll Co., Maryland, at age 94.5,3,4 She Virginia Hunt Elmore, 94, of Look About Manor Nursing Home in Westminster, died Monday, June 28, 2010. Born June 26, 1916, in Wanego, W.Va., she was the daughter of George Henry Hunt Sr. and Leona Hester Keen Hunt. She was the wife of the late Gene F. Elmore Sr. She spent most of her youth on the Hunt Farm in Tariff, W.Va. She and her husband built and lived in the house on Oak Drive Addition just outside of Spencer, W.Va., for 62 years. They traveled extensively throughout the United States and part of Canada. She was an administrative assistant for the West Virginia Road Commission in Roane County and was employed at the Spencer Manufacturing (Kellwood) Co. on Oak Drive. She was a 57-year member of the First Baptist Church of Spencer, where she served as secretary and performed many other positions of service. She was a charter member of the Junior Woman's Club, Roane County Historical Society and the Roane General Hospital Auxiliary, where she was a past president. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Spencer Chapter, had served as worthy matron and mother adviser of the Rainbow Girls, Chapter 3, of Spencer, for which she was awarded the Grand Cross of Color. She was a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She served as a volunteer with the Gray Ladies, Junior and Senior Woman's Clubs and also as a poll worker during many elections. She was also a chaperone for several Spencer High School band trips for all three of her children and chaperoned for the class of 1959 for several activities and was always interested in her children's friends. Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law James and Sondra Reger, of Finksburg, and Edward and Virginia "Ginny" Bulmer, of Rye, N.H; grandchildren Darren and Jane Elmore, Leigh Anne Reger Gross, Raymond A. Vine III and Timothy Vine; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Gene F. Elmore Jr; brothers Ferris, Robert, Lawrence Bruce and George Henry Hunt Jr; and sisters Mabel Jarrett and Evelyn Looney Bentle. on June 29, 2010.4
