     Melbourne Lee Poff Sr. Tucson, Ariz. - Former longtime North Platte resident Melbourne Lee Poff Sr., died Dec. 2, 1992, at a Tucson Ariz., hospital. He was 83. He was born Sept. 7, 1909, in Vermilion, Utah. He graduated from high school at Klamath Falls, Ore., in 1927 and attended Oregon state University at Eugene. He was employed by the Pacific Fruit Express in Nampa, Idaho, in 1932. After several transfers he and his wife moved to North Platte in 1948 where he was a Foreman for the M & E department of the Pacific Fruit Express. He retired in 1974 after 42 years of service. He and his wife then moved to Arizona City, Ariz. While in North Platte, Mr. Poff was active and scouting and Little League Baseball. He was a member of the Elks, Moose and Eagles lodges and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was preceded in death by an infant son, David Lynn, eight brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his wife, Norma of Arizona City, Ariz; sons, Melbourne L. Jr. of Houston, Texas, Stan W. of Kearney, Gaylord, North Platte and Daniel H. of Nampa, Idaho; a daughter, Shirley L. Poff of Nampa, Idaho; two step-daughters, Savannah Baker of Brady and Shirley Krone of Yakima, Washington; a sister, Marie Draper of Salt Lake City, Utah; 26 grandchildren and a great grandchild.6 He was buried at North Platte Cemetery, North Platte, Lincoln Co., Nebraska.4 He married Norma Elaine Bunch.4 Melbourne Lee Poff Sr. was born on September 7, 1908 at Vermillion, Sevier Co., Utah; His gravestone, obituary, and the SSDI have a birth year of 1909 but his birth certificate has 1908.4,5,8,6 He married Edna Mary Marks on April 11, 1936 at Ogden, Weber Co., Utah.3 Melbourne Lee Poff Sr. died on December 2, 1992 at Tucson, Pima Co., Arizona, at age 84.4,6

Brown Jr; her son, Herman Leon Stewart, Sr; her brothers, Cletis, Eugene, Ed, Junior and Robert Bouldin; her sisters, Margaret Agee, Josephine Clemons, Gladys Bouldin, and Sue Dax; and her best friend, Pat Lucas. She leaves to cherish her memory her sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Cindy Stewart of Narrows, Timmy and Jennifer Stewart of Narrows; her daughters and son-in-law, Bertie and Warren Clement of Logan, Ohio, Sharon Stewart of Peterstown, W.Va; her 17 grandchildren; her 26 great-grandchildren; her brother, Charles (Red) Bouldin of Narrows; her sisters, Bertha Martin of Narrows, Elizabeth Mullins of Narrows, and Lorraine Hayes of Blacksburg; and her beloved caregivers with Kanawah Hospice Care: Melissa Morgan, Patchila Carter, Angie Brammer, Tammy Cox, and Marsha Shepard. Burial will follow in the Bradley Cemetery at Lindside, W.Va. on June 17, 2014.3

Jim worked for the State of New Mexico Motor Transportation Division as a Motor Carrier Safety Specialist at the Hobbs Port of Entry. Mr. Howard's first wife was Maude Oswalt, and after her death, he married Dana Jackson in 1944. Survivors include two sons, Leo Howard and Wilbur Howard, Marion; one daughter, Mrs. Carl Widmeyer, Elwood; two brothers, Wiley, Converse, and Kenneth, LaFontaine; one sister, Mrs. Liza McGinnis, LaFontaine; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Joseph Hickey, and three stepsons, Burrett Cochran, Robert Cochran, Wabash, and Burrett Cochran, LaFontaine: 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mr. Howard was a member of the LaFontaine Christian Church where funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Robert Rowe officiating.
