He died Monday, June 11, 2001, at his home of natural causes. A native of Bluefield, W. Va., he was born Dec. 2, 1936, the son of the late Thomas Allen and Fannie Boyd Neal. He was a carpenter and construction worker. His wife preceded him in death. Survivors include two sons, John Wayne Neal Jr. and Paul Allen Neal, both of Chesterfield, Va; four daughters, Wanda Kay Hagan, Detroit, Mich., Lynn Dorsett, Hopewell, Va., Katherine McGlone, Chesterfield, Trina Brown, Williamston, N.C; a sister, Daisy Gladwell, Hopewell; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. on June 14, 2001.⁴

Ruby was born on May 3, 1931 in Mercer County, West Virginia to the late, Floyd and Bonnie White Barrett. Ruby had been a lifelong resident of Bluefield, W.Va. and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Burton; and one brother, Keith Barrett. Left to cherish her memory two sons, Richard "Buddy" Burton and wife, Shannon of Bluefield, W.Va. and James Burton and wife, Betty of Bluefield, W.Va; three grandchildren, Richard Lee Burton of Bluefield, W.Va., Tiffany Searless of Bluefield, W.Va., and Chance Burton of Bluefield, W.Va; one brother, Charles "C.A." Burton of Woodbridge, Va; and one sister, Shirley Thompson and husband, Charles of Green Valley, W.Va. In accordance with Ruby's wishes she was cremated and burial will follow at a later date. on October 2, 2013.²
