Besides the parents, he is survived by nine sisters, Mrs. Geneva Smith, Mecca, Mrs. Martha Garwood, West Terre Haute, Mrs. Mary Lansaw, Paris, Ill., and Christina, Virginia Rose, Delores, Beverly, Maxine, and Charlene Sue, all at home; and the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clem Poff, Clinton, route two. Burial in the Shirley Cemetery. on October 20, 1943.5

Sykes, 70, of Mecca, passed away at 11:47 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, in her residence. She was born on March 20, 1943, in Clinton, to Manley Smith and Geneva Poff Smith. She had worked at Uselman Foods. She was a member of the Mecca Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Jack Smith. She is survived by a son, Shawn and Amy Sykes of Terre Haute; a daughter, Stefanie Cavanaugh of Terre Haute; a brother, Don Smith of Mecca; two sisters, Janet Overpeck of Mecca and Sandra Hutson of Mecca; four grandchildren, Sierra Sykes, Shelby Sykes, Chelsea (Matt) Stout, and Allison Cavanaugh; one great-granddaughter, Harper Stout; and several nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. on February 17, 2014.1
