Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Ronda Samples Copeland; four daughters, Tammy LaRue of Windsor, N.C., Mona Frady of Carrsville, Heather Copeland of Waverly and Kimberly Taylor of Rocky Mount, N.C; two sons, Gene W. Copeland Jr. of Yale and Mack Copeland and wife Tracy of Edenton, N.C; a sister, Dianne Alexander and husband Reginald of Kings Mountain, N.C; five brothers, Valand Copeland Jr. and wife Gladys of Chesapeake, Jimmie Copeland and wife Joanne of Carrsville, Joey Copeland and wife Sue of Suffolk, David Copeland of Fayetteville, N.C. and Chris Copeland of Norfolk; and 10 grandchildren.
