"He came (to Brevard County) because there was more opportunity," said his daughter, Cathy Smith of West Melbourne. "He worked at Boeing until the big layoff in 1969. He was a finish carpenter by trade. When he worked at Boeing he was a carpenter and in general maintenance." Mr. Elmore worked for 22 years for the Brevard County School District as a maintenance supervisor. He enjoyed woodworking. "He would build things for churches and friends. He was very knowledgable in woodcrafting," his daughter said. Mr. Elmore was a member of the 32nd Degree Mason Lodge No. 143, Melbourne Azan Temple, Scottish Rite of Orlando and the South Brevard Scottish Rite. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Elmore's other hobbies included hunting and fishing. "Dad would fish and hunt up north. He said the animals down here (in the south) were too small to kill," his daughter said. "He was also a ham radio operator," she said. Mr. Elmore was a member of the Indian River Amateur Radio Club. Other survivors include his wife, Ruby Elmore of Melbourne; son, Larry Elmore of Rockledge; sisters, Helen Elmore of Elkview and Opal Warner of Gainesville; brother, Paul Elmore of Charleston, W. Va; and three grandchildren. Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Florida Memorial Funeral Home, north of Melbourne. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Florida Memorial Gardens. on April 9, 2000.⁴
