     Cassius LeRoy “Roy” Nowels was buried at Elmwood Cemetery, Fruita, Mesa Co., Colorado.² He was born on July 20, 1874 at Iowa.² He married Luella May “Lula” Maggard on November 18, 1903 at Woodward, Woodward Co., Oklahoma.³ Cassius LeRoy “Roy” Nowels died on October 22, 1930 at Mesa Co., Colorado, at age 56.² He Roy Nowels Died at Loma on Wednesday - Well Known Man to Be Buried at 2 O'clock Saturday Afternoon at Fruita. Roy Nowels passed away Wednesday morning at his home just west of the Loma store, after an extended illness, and the funeral services will be held at the chapel of the Starks-DeYarman funeral home in Fruita at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Rev. J. Edwin Elder of Fruita will have charge of the services and burial will be in the Fruita cemetery. Cassius LeRoy Nowels was born in Lorahia, Ia., on July 20, 1874, and he passed away at the age of 56 years. He had been a resident of the western states for some years and was well known in Loma, where he had made his home for years. He had been in Soldier Summit, Utah, for a time, but a few months ago he and his family returned to Loma when he became ill. Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Lula Nowels, and four childen. The three younger children are aged 6, 8 and 14 years, and the older daughter, Mrs. Wallace Hurley, and her husband are enroute to Fruita from their home in Ontario, Calif., to be present at the funeral. on October 23, 1930.²

     Luella May “Lula” Maggard was buried at Elmwood Cemetery, Fruita, Mesa Co., Colorado.¹ She was born on November 18, 1886 at Norton, Norton Co., Kansas.¹ As of November 18, 1903,her married name was Nowels.¹ She married Cassius LeRoy “Roy” Nowels, son of John Edwin Nowels and Eva Jane McKern, on November 18, 1903 at Woodward, Woodward Co., Oklahoma.¹ Luella May “Lula” Maggard Mrs. Luella May Nowels, 77, of 215 Gunnison Ave., died at 12:25 a.m. today in Lincoln Park Hospital following an illness of two weeks. She was the widow of a Loma area farmer, Cashes LeRoy Nowels, who died in October 1930. The Nowels came to Mesa County 35 years ago from Oklahoma. They were married at Woodward, Okla., on Nov. 18, 1903. Mrs. Nowels was born at Norton, Kan., on Nov. 18, 1886. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Surviving are a son, Everett, of Ogden, Utah; three daughters, Mrs. Ethia Hurley of Glendale, Calif.. . . and . . . , and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Martin's Chapel. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. on April 11, 1964.¹ She died on April 11, 1964 at Mesa Co., Colorado, at age 77.¹

     Everett Leroy Nowels was buried at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 North Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, Maricopa Co., Arizona.² He married Zona Ingred Cato.² Everett Leroy Nowels and Zona Ingred Cato were divorced.² Everett Leroy Nowels was born on December 28, 1911 at Ames, Story Co., Iowa.² He died on June 11, 1988 at Phoenix, Maricopa Co., Arizona, at age 76.² He Everett LeRoy Nowels of Phoenix, Ariz., died June 11 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Phoenix. He was 76. Mr. Nowels was a trapper, farmer; stockman and miner and had lived in Loma and the Lower Valley from 1929-1948. He was born Dec. 28, 1911, in Ames, Okla. He married Zona Cato. They were later divorced. She survives. Mr. Nowels served with the U.S. Army in World War II for four years. Other survivors include a son. . ; three sisters, Ethia Hurley and Wilma Thompson, both of Pacific Groves, Calif., and Margie Boyd of Denver; two grandsons; and a granddaughter. Graveside services were at 10 a.m. June 17. Burial was in the Veterans Garden of Honor in Phoenix. on June 21, 1988.²

Married at seventeen, she and her husband trapped for the government in the high mountains of CO. She was as much at home with a 22 pistol in her hand as she was with a #2 art pencil. At the age of forty nine she graduated cum laude from Weber State College in Ogden, UT. She worked at the Phoenix Job Corps as an art and crafts instructor before retiring. She had three husbands. She is survived by her three sons. . . . She has 11 grandchildren, 25 great-granchdildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. She is survived by one sister. . . . Visitation will be Thursday April 6, 2002 from 5-8PM at Samaritan Funeral Home. Arrangements made by Samaritan Funeral Home, 1505 E. McDowell, Phx, AZ. Funeral and burial will be at Moab [Grand County], UT. on April 6, 2006.²

Dorothy was born September 28, 1921 in Moravia, IA to John and Eula Nowels. She enjoyed flowers, ceramics, vacationing, her cat Misty and spoiling her grandchildren.      Roma Madge Best was buried at Salem-United Brethren Cemetery, Moravia, Appanoose Co., Iowa.^3,4 She was born on November 5, 1907 at Walnut, Appanoose Co., Iowa.^2,3 As of December 31, 1924,her married name was Tainter.³ She married Orville Everett Tainter on December 31, 1924 at Kansas City, Kansas.³ Roma Madge Best died on July 7, 1926 at Kansas City, Kansas, at age 18.³ She Roma Madge Best was born on a farm near Walnut City, Iowa, November 5, 1907, and passed away at her home in Kansas City, Mo., July 7, 1926,at the age of 18 years, 8 month, and 2 days. For several months she had been in ill health due to an anemic condition but when the end came it was rather sudden and unexpected. She had joined the Christian Church at Walnut City when fourteen years old. She was united in marriage on New Years eve 1924 to Mr. Orville Taintorof (should be Tainter) Kansas City, Mo. To this union no children were born. Besides the husband she leaves to mourn, father and mother, one brother, Orville Best and two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Green of Coffeyville, Kansas, and Miss Giada Best at home. A loved one from my home is gone. A voice I loved is stilled, A vacancy is in my home, That never can be filled. She was fully conscious to the last and almost in the last breath she said, "I want to go Home". It is there we hope to meet again. Funeral services were conducted at the Christian church in Moravia. No pastor being present, Rev. O. J. Fix of the Methodist church delivered the sermon, on Friday afternoon, July the 9th, 1920. Brief services had also been held in the Funeral Director's Parlors in Kansas City. Burial took place in the Salem cemetery, just west of Moravia. on July 15, 1926.³

     Orville Everett Tainter was buried at Elmwood Cemetey, Kansas City, Jackson Co., Missouri.³ He was born on February 4, 1900 at Kansas City, Jackson Co., Missouri.^4,3 He married Roma Madge Best, daughter of Jesse Perl/Pearl Best and Lenna/Lena Gertrude McKern, on December 31, 1924 at Kansas City, Kansas.¹ Orville Everett Tainter died on September 15, 1961 at North Kansas City, Clay Co., Missouri, at age 61.³

J. Hazard, Glada Best was the daughter of Jesse Best and Lenna McKern Best She was born at Walnut City, Iowa, Dec. 13, 1911, and died in Tama, Iowa, July 24, 1934, having reached the age of 22 years, 7 months, and 11 days. She attended school in Moravia, Iowa, which is near Walnut City, and was in the eleventh grade of the Moravia town school when she was married to Robert J. Hazard, the wedding taking place October 28, 1928, at Centerville, Iowa. Immediately after the wedding they moved to Tisgah, Iowa, where they resided for three months. Mr. Hazard then being principal of the high school at that place. Then they resided in Osceola for eight months, and then they moved to Tama. After residing here for a year they removed to Coffeeville, Kansas, where they resided for about four months, after which they returned to Tama. Mrs. Hazard was a member of the Christian church at Moravia and was a member of the Tama Auxiliary to the American Legion. Two years ago Mrs. Hazard won the bathing beauty contest conducted atthe Lake Cherry beach as the feature of the American Legion's Fourth ofJuly celebration. She was well known and particularly well liked for her cheerful disposition and friendliness. She was the second wife of Robert J. Hazard. Mrs. Hazard is survived by her father, Jesse Best of Walnut City, her mother, Mrs. Fred Reed of Jetmore, Kansas; one sister, Mrs. Clyde O. Green of Coffeeville, Kansas, and a brother, Orville Best, of Kansas City. She was preceded in death by one sister, Miss Roma Best. Funeral services were held Thursday morning at 9:30 from the Harrison Funeral Home at Tama, with Rev. C. J. Bukoutz, pastor of the Baptist church at Tama, officiating. Miss Mildred Rice sang "No Night There" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." Miss Lulu McCall accompanied at the piano. The members of the American Legion Auxiliary attended in a body. Services were also held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the church at Walnut City. Interment was made in the cemetery 2 miles west of Moravia, beside a sister and grandmother. on August 2, 1934.³

     Ora Myrtle Nowels was buried at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, 6000 Santa Monica Boulevard, Hollywood, Los Angeles Co., California.⁸ She was buried at Moravia Cemetery, Moravia, Appanoose Co., Iowa.⁹ She was born on July 9, 1876 at Taylor, Appanoose Co., Iowa.^2,10,8 She married Frank Selby on October 1, 1896 at Appanoose Co., Iowa.^3,5,8 As of October 1, 1896,her married name was Selby.³ As of September 19, 1949,her married name was Turner.⁴ Ora Myrtle Nowels married Charles Alonzo "C.A." Turner on September 19, 1949 at Upland, San Bernardino Co., California.^4,8,11 Ora Myrtle Nowels died on September 17, 1965 at Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., California, at age 89.¹² She Mrs. Ora Turner Dies in California - Funeral services for Mrs. Ora Selby Turner, 89, were held Sept. 18th in the chapel of Pierce Bros., Hollywood, Calif. She was born in Moravia, Ia., July 9, 1976. She married Frank Selby and resided in Moravia until his death. Then she came to California where she lived until she and C.A. Turner married in Upland, Calif. He took her back to Moravia, where she lived until his death. She again came to Calif., and has resided with her daughter, Mrs. Fern Handy, 841 South Serrano Avenue, Los Angeles, the past six years. She passed away Sept. 17 after a brief illness. Mrs. Turner remained a member of the Moravia Garden club, the W.S.C.S., and the Rebekahs. She was worthy matron of the Eastern Stars and later served them as chaplain for several years. She continued her membership in the Moravia Methodist church. Dr. J. Richard Sneed, born in Moravia, a family friend and many years the minister of the first Methodist Church of Los Angeles delivered the eulogy. Mrs. Turner is survived by three daughters, Oneita Selby, Mrs. Fontelle Selby Swenson and Mrs. Fern Selby Handy (all of Los Angeles); a sister, Eva Frome George of Rialto; two grandsons, Waldo Earl Handy of Indianapolis, Frank Selby Handy of Los Angeles, and three great-grandchildren. Interment was in Sanctuary of Honor, Hollywood Memorial Park. on September 27, 1965.⁸
