Ferrell Leo Purvis was buried at Hillcrest Cemetery, Moravia, Appanoose Co., Iowa.1 He Ferrell Leo Purvis, age 89 of Centerville, Iowa passed away August 3, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville, Iowa. He was born on December 22, 1921, in Moravia, Iowa, to LeRoy and Essie Hiatt Purvis. He was the second of seven children. Ferrell graduated from Moravia High School in 1939. He served as a sergeant in the United States Army during World War II from October of 1942 through October of 1944. Ferrell’s outfit and fifteen tanks were headed to San Pietro, Italy. On December 15, 1943 his tank was hit and he was severely injured. Ferrell survived three days and three nights under an olive tree before being found and taken to a field hospital. He tolerated substantial pain and inconvenience as a result of that leg injury throughout the rest of his life. He was discharged from the Army and returned to Iowa where he married Ruby Roberta Wakefield on June 2, 1945 in Centerville, Iowa. To this union they had two daughters, Linda Sue and Patricia. Ferrell was a farmer and electrician. His passions were hunting, fishing, and outdoor activities. He was a loving and devoted father and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Ferrell could always be counted on to lend a helping hand and he was always recognized by his memorable laugh. He passed away after struggling with health issues for the last couple years. Those left to honor Ferrell’s memory are his two daughters, Linda Sue (Joe) Pasa and Patricia Purvis; two grandchildren, Callie Pasa and Cody (Nicole) Pasa; two great grandchildren, Cameron Light and Hayden Pasa; siblings: Floyd (Maxine) Purvis, Freeman (Mary) Purvis and Florene Brown; his very special friend Fairy Hartman; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Ferrell was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Roberta; his grandson Luca Pasa; two brothers, Forrest and Francis; and his infant sister Frona June. Pallbearers will be LeRoy Brown, Gary Purvis, Carl Purvis, Lyle Purvis, Joe Pasa, and Cody Pasa. Honorary pallbearers will be Floyd Purvis, Freeman Purvis, Florene Brown, Dixie Phillips, Charlie Foster, and Fairy Hartman. Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Monday, August 8, 2011 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia, Iowa. A visitation will be held Sunday at Lange Funeral Home from 12PM-8 Pm, with the family present from 6-8 PM. Wakefield, 71, of Kewanee died at 9:54 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, in the Kewanee Hospital emergency room. Born July 7, 1933, in Mystic, Iowa, to Charles M. and Irene M. Haines Wakefield, he married Edith M. Adolphson on March 8, 1953, in Middletown, Iowa. She died May 22, 2001. He also was preceded in death by one sister. Surviving are two daughters, Debbie (and Steve) Simaytis of Kewanee and Pam Wakefield (and Johnny Shults) of San Angelo, Texas; one son, Jeffrey (and Carrie) of Kewanee; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; two sisters, Donna (and Howard) Spencer of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Dixie (and Wendell) Phillips of Camden, Mo; and his caregiver, Elaine Holesclaw of Kewanee. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was a lifetime member of the Kewanee Veterans of Foreign Wars. He owned and operated Wakefield Well Drilling in Kewanee. He was a member of Kewanee Masonic Lodge 159, AF&AM. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. The Rev. Bob Thomas will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Masonic services by his lodge at 7:45 p.m. Cremation has been accorded, and inurnment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Memorials may be made to the Kewanee High School Foundation or Kewanee Hospital Hospice. on February 19, 2005.6

Dhority, a former resident of Moravia, died at 10:30 Tuesday night at his home in Mystic foJlowing an illness of a week. He was 68 years old. Mr. Dhority suffered a stroke last week, his third, and was unable to rally from it. Funeral services will be held at the Mystic Methodist church at 1:3O Thursday aftemoon. Burial wlll be in the Moravia cemetery. Opportunity will be given his friends here to view the remains at the cemetery. Mr. Dhority was born in Moravia July, 1882 and lived here a great part of his life. He was a blacksmith and followed his trade until ill health forced him to retire. Surviving him are his wife, two sons, Deloss of Centerville and Dallas of Ottumwa, and two sisters, Mrs. Freeman Weidman of Lanesboro, Minn., and Mrs. Frank Wilson of this community. His only brother, Elmer, died Feb. 18, 1939. on November 21, 1940.4
