He was a graduate of Herbert Hoover High School in 1966 and a member of the varsity football team, where he received special recognition. He served in the Army from 1967 to 1969, including the Vietnam War. Upon returning from the military, he worked for Appalachian Power and later had a construction and remodeling company with his son, Marc. He was also retired from Laborers Union Local 1353. He loved fishing and gardening and going on numerous vacations to Florida with his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jean and Buddy Scalf, and most of all spending time with his great-grandsons. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. Jack was preceded in death by his daughter, Kelly Jo; mother, Juanita Smith Dodd; father, Blake Dodd; brother, Gary Dodd; and niece, Brenda Dodd.
