     Geraldine A. "Gerry" Barnett died on July 11, 2009 at Colorado Springs, El Paso Co., Colorado, at age 90.2,1 She Geraldine A. Brown (Gerry) died peacefully at home on July 11, 2009, at age 90. Gerry relocated to Colorado Springs in 1998 from Lakin, Kansas. Born in Waynoka, OK, on Aug. 14, 1918, she was the daughter of Wilbur and Alda (Ellis) Barnett. When she was 18 years old Gerry moved to Syracuse, Kansas, with her cousin Marge, to work in the Ames Hotel Coffee Shop. There she met her husband Richard L. Brown (Dick) whom she married in 1939. Gerry began homemaking in temporary quarters while she and Dick traveled southeast Colorado and southwest Kansas when Dick worked for the Santa Fe Railroad Extra Board. They settled in Lakin in 1949. Gerry is survived by her three children: Linda (Ken) Day, Colorado Springs, Carol (Art) Moffat, Johnstown, PA and Mary (Jon Ward) Brown, Leawood, KS, 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, many treasured extended family members and a host of dear friends and beloved neighbors. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brothers Walter and George Barnett, sisters, Esther Curtis and Ethel Bagley, her cousin Marge Mills, her cherished in-laws Kelsey and Bessie (Alison) Brown, and her eldest grandson, James Richard Dougherty. She was a tireless church worker, community supporter and a member of both the Manitou Springs Women's Club and Trinity United Methodist Church. She was also a committed member of the Hope Circle, the Spiritual Journey group, and her Sunday School Class at Trinity, and felt privileged to find support and love in these fellowships. Memorial services will be held on Aug. 13, 2009 at Trinity United Methodist Church at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Hamilton County Cemetery, Syracuse, Kansas on Aug. 14. The family gratefully declines flowers and suggests memorial contributions to Trinity United Methodist Church, 701 N. 20th St., Colorado Springs, 80904. Special thanks to her physicians, Dr. Honi B. Crandall and Dr. William Malabre, and to Louise of Pikes Peak Hospice. on July 15, 2009.1

Burial will follow at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Ellison was born Feb. 6, 1919, in Independence, Mo., to Alva and Hazel Allison Ellison. He served with the U.S. Army/s 1st Cavalry in Europe during Word War II and the Army National Guard/s 40th Infantry Division during the Korean War. Before his retirement in 1975, he worked at the Naval Air Station in North Island, San Diego, for 30 years and has resided in Lompoc since 1996. Leo loved camping, the California deserts, animals, western novels, music and especially classical music. He died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at the Convalescent Care Center in Lompoc. Survivors (and spouses) include his daughter, Lillian (John D., M.D.) Sawyer, of Lompoc; sister, Roberta (Cy) Cashin, of Largo, Fla; brother, James (Jane) Ellison, of Lee Summit, Mo; grandchildren, David Sawyer, John M. (Mary) Sawyer, M.D., Diane (Albert) Dietrich, Christopher Taylor, and Edward Ellison; great-grandchildren, Jacqueline Krallman, Ryan Krallman, John Krallman, Amanda Sawyer, Matthew Sawyer, Jessica Sawyer, Christina Sawyer; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie, in 1992; a daughter, Carmen Taylor; and son, Edward Ellison. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lompoc Library Foundation, 501 East North Ave., Lompoc 93436; or VIVA, P.O. Box 896, Lompoc 93438. on January 3, 2005.2

Jim owned and operated Ellison Development Co. for 40 years, developing Green Crest in Independence and Woods Chapel Acres in Lee's Summit, where a street was named Ellison Way in his honor. He and his wife, Jane, lived in the Lake Lotawana area for 56 years before moving to John Knox Village. For 17 years Jim and Jane loved to winter in Florida in the areas of Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Clear Water. Jim was a member of Lee's Summit Bible Church, a giving, loving person and an avid fisherman. Preceded in death by his parents, Alva and Hazel Ellison, one brother, Forrest L. Ellison. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Jane; one son, Gary Ellison of Claycomo, Mo; one sister, Roberta Campbell of Largo, Florida; two grandchildren, Coby and wife Heather Ellison and Jessica and husband Jeff Avery; three great grandchildren, Sam, Jacob, and Rhain.
