She is survived by a daughter, Elaine Hancock, Goodview; sons and daughters-in-law, Benjamin Hancock, Salem, Jack and Mary Hancock, Zane and Peggy Hancock, Dexter and Linda Hancock, all of Goodview; grandchildren, Glen Hancock, Darlene Hancock, Sandra Hancock Manning and husband, Kevin, Salem, Brian Hancock and Ellen, Roanoke, Kevin and Jeffrey Hancock, Goodview; great- grandchildren, Amy Hancock, Amber Hancock, both of Salem, Stephen and Matthew Hancock, both of Roanoke, Presten Hancock, Roanoke; her sister, Blanche M. Young, Danville; brother and sister-in-law, W.G. (Bill) and Lila Montgomery, Rocky Mount; sister-in-law, Betty Montgomery, Roanoke; four nieces and their families; two stepgrandchildren, Glenn Turner, and Margaret Ann Brammer. Burial to follow in Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery. Her children wish to express gratitude to the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice for their care and kindness during her most recent illness (Especially her nurse Barbara Huffman). He was preceded in death by wives, Virginia Hancock and Janie Hancock; son, Wayne Hancock; mother-in-law, Mae Cundiff; granddaughter, Amy Hancock; son-in-law, Kevin Manning; brother, Jack Hancock; and nephews, Kevin Hancock and Michael Sloane. Benjamin retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad with 44 years of service. He was a United States Army Veteran and a member of CommUNITY Church. He was a master of all trades and was always helping someone. He was always smiling and everyone that met him liked him. His nickname on the railroad was "Gentle Ben". Benjamin was a very patient man and he loved to dance, wood working, travel, church trips and family vacations. His family feels very fortunate to have had him in their lives and he loved his family very much.He is survived by his son, Glenn Hancock and fiancée, Barbara Griffith; daughters, Darlene Hancock and Sandra Hancock Manning; granddaughter, Amber Dawn Hancock who had a very special relationship with her grampa, and her significant other, Blake Boone; also surviving are his sister, Elaine Hancock; Brothers, Zane Hancock and wife, Peggy, Dexter Hancock and wife, Linda; sisters-in-law, Mary Hancock and Marie Sloane; and all his many nephews and cousins.The family would like to thank Carilion Home Health Care, Carilion Hospice, Brenda and Matt Sloane for their care of Benjamin. The family also extends a special thank you to a very special person, Evelyn Taylor, his caregiver. He called her "The Woman" and we can't explain how much she did for our father and our family. Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Roanoke. on April 10, 2016.3

Ruth Elaine Hancock Ruth Elaine Hancock, 91, of Goodview, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2021. She was born on March 25, 1929, in Virginia to the late William Benjamin and Mary Etta Montgomery Hancock. Elaine was also preceded in death by, Benjamin and Jack Hancock; sisters-in-law, Virginia Hancock and Janie Hancock; nephews, Wayne and Kevin Hancock and Kevin Manning; a great niece, Amy Hancock, and a great-nephew, Presten Bailey. In 1991 Elaine retired as a missionary of the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board after 32 years of dedicated service in Kowloon Hong Kong. Elaine is survived by her brothers, Zane Hancock (Peggy) and Dexter Hancock (Linda); sister-in-law, Mary Turner Hancock; nieces, Darlene Hancock and Sandra Manning; nephews, Glen Hancock (Barbara), Brian Hancock, and Jeff Hancock (Nicole); great-niece, Amber Hancock and great-nephew, Stephen, Matthew, Ashton, and Aaron Hancock. The family will receive friends on at Beaverdam Baptist Church, Vinton. A funeral service will be held with burial to follow in the church cemetery.5 She was buried at Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery, 10655 Stewartsville Road, Stewartsville, Bedford Co., Virginia.5 She was born on March 25, 1929 at Roanoke, Virginia.4,5 She died on January 13, 2021 at Bedford Co., Virginia, at age 91.5

They were married in August, 1945 and began living in Alexandria, Virginia. She continued to work as an operator for much of that time until 1978 when they retired and moved to San Francisco. While living there, she worked as a volunteer at Letterman Army Hospital. After the closing of the Presidio in 1995, they moved to Petaluma to be closer to their son and daughter Private services were held at Skylawn Memorial Park, San Mateo, Calif. on August 27, 2003.6

She was born June 20, 1925 a daughter of the late Samuel Edward Mason and Julia Grace Hancock Mason. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, James "Jimmy" Willard Johnson. They were married on July 1, 1952 and had many years of happy married life. Clarice was also preceded by sisters, Gladys McGhee and husband Wilson, Eunice Griffith and husband Walter; brother, Lloyd Mason and wives Doris and Elaine; and nephew, Leon Mason. She is survived by her daughter, Joy Johnson Swicegood and husband Gary; granddaughter, Morgan Rachael Swicegood and Jamie Carter; special nieces, Betty Jane McGhee and Bonnie Jo Sink who without their loving care for the last eight years she would have not have been able to stay at home; nieces, Linda Mason Lawrence and Neda Mason; special nephew, Dewey McGhee and wife Martha; nephews, Walter Griffith and wife Cynthia, Steward Mason and wife Susan, Monty Lamkin and Tammie; great-niece, Dawn Lawrence; great-nephews, Barry Sink and wife Kathy, Brian Sink and wife Tammy; great-great-niece, Whitney Long and husband Justin; great-great-nephew, Cole Lawrence; great-great-great-niece, Marley May Long. She also leaves her four legged babies, Fin, Ivi, and Auto who was by her side day and night and made her happy with their devotion. She was retired from E.I. DuPont with over 40 years of service. Clarice loved her family, cooking and doing for others. She was the kind of mother that your friends loved and called her mom too. She taught us to treat people the way you wanted to be treated- always say thank you and hi. Talk to your children about everything and just listen. She was beyond kind and we now know there is a new star in heaven. We would like to thank the Rev. Chris Bennett and Dr. Kimberly Dulaney for their care, also family, friends and our church family. She attended Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Sydnorsville. Doss and her husband, J.M. Doss of Chatham and Myrtle L. Thornton and husband, Joseph Thornton of College Park, Md. and a number of nieces and nephews; two brothers-in-law, Leon Mason and his wife Oneda of Ferrum, and Stuart Mason and his wife Susan of Rocky Mount. He was predeceased by two sisters Ethridge L. Thornton and Linda F. Lawrence, and one brother, Samuel A. Lawrence. Burial was at Adkins Lawrence Family Cemetery. on April 7, 2008.2

Jack served in the Navy during the Korean War. He was a farmer and retired from GE in 1988 after 32 years of service. He was a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Mary Turner Hancock; three brothers, Benjamin Hancock, Zane Hancock and his wife, Peggy, Dexter Hancock and his wife, Linda; a sister, Elaine Hancock; stepdaughter, Margaret Brammer and her husband, Richard; stepson, Glenn Turner and his wife, Twila; grandchildren, Lori Brammer, Matt Turner and Brant Turner; three nephews, Brian Hancock, Jeff Hancock and his wife, Nicole, and Glenn Hancock; two nieces, Darlene Hancock and Sandra Manning and her husband, Kevin; and many other family members and friends. Funeral Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel. The Rev. Edward T. Creel will officiate, and burial will follow at the Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday August 17, 2010, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 540-982-2221. on August 17, 2010.2
