Hubert was a 1936 graduate of William Byrd High School and had two years of college level education through Armed Forces Institute while serving with pride and distinction in the Asiatic Theatre during World War II. Hubert entered the Army-Air Corps as a mechanic and came out a welder and builder as well as being a mechanic. He helped to build the first trailers for the Fruehauf Corporation. Hubert went on to marry the love of his life, Margie Elizabeth Jones, on January 3, 1946; she preceded him in death on May 14, 2001 after 55 years of marriage. Hubert worked as a contract mail carrier for a number of years. His interests included photography, guns, the N.R.A., clocks, "C.B." radio, electronics and researching family genealogy. Hubert leaves three children to cherish his memory, daughter, Carla H. Pickeral and her husband, Ryland of Roanoke; his son, Hubert Gary Hunley and his wife, Brenda of Rocky Mount; and daughter, Bonnie K. Hartman and her husband, Bruce of Roanoke. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Jeff, Ashley, Jessica and Cheyna; and great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Jonas and Mary. on December 10, 2004.3

Jeffrey Alan "Jeff" Pickeral Jeffrey Alan Pickeral, Apr 22, 1971 - Jul 10, 2018. Jeffrey Alan Pickeral, 47, of Roanoke beloved husband, dad, and son lost his battle with esophageal cancer. He fought courageously until the end. Jeff was a graduate of William Byrd H.S. He was a master wood worker always looking for new projects to make in his workshop. He earned his living in the kitchen countertop business retiring from Rugby due to health issues. In Jeff's younger days he was an avid skateboarder. He loved to fish, barbecue and go to the Outer Banks. Most of all he loved to be with his family. Jeff is preceded in death by his dad, Ryland Pickeral; grandparents, H.G. and Margie Hunley and Geneva Pickeral. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 24 years and caregiver, Kate Pickeral; son, Jonas; daughter, Josie; mom, Carla Hunley Pickeral and her friend Louis Taylor; mother-in-law, Vivian Cundiff; sister-in-law, Whitney Shelton and her family; special family friend, Paul “PawPaw” Cauley; special aunts, uncles and cousins also survive him; missing him very much are his two fur babies, Barren and Chug. The family wishes to thank all the friends and neighbors who visited and shared their love with Jeff especially all the old skateboarding and work buddies. Thanks to the doctors and staff at Blue Ridge Cancer, UVA Hospital and Heartland Hospice.
