Ghent, 73, of Lockeford, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, February 2, 2006. He was born May 19, 1932 in Long Beach, CA. He joined the United States Marine Corp in 1951 where he served in the Korean War. He finished the remainder of his enlistment as a USMC Drill Sergeant, until his honorable discharge in 1954. He married Jean Lowrey, and they had two sons, Steven and Phillip Ghent. He later married Dorothy "Jean" Dudley in 1971, where the two of them lived in Lockeford at their B & J Ranch from 1975-1997, and then settling in a home in Lockeford. Mr. Ghent worked as an auto mechanic and later became an automobile salesman with Hansel and Ortman. Mr. Ghent regularly achieved "Salesman of the Month", "Year" and "Nation". Mr. Ghent joined Mataga Oldsmobile in 1988, continuing his successes until his retirement in 2001. Mr. Ghent was an all around sportsman, including hiking, scuba diving, fishing, hunting, boating, camping and horseback riding. He achieved his pilot license which was his greatest passion, flying his own plane for many years. Mr. Ghent was a past member of the American Legion, Elks Lodge and Lions Club. He is survived by his wife, Jean Ghent of Lockeford; son, Steven M. Ghent, wife, Julie and grandchildren, Daniel, Andrew and Gabrielle Ghent of Stockton; son, Phillip J. Ghent, wife, Christine and grandson, Carson G. Ghent of Woodbridge; sister, Deborah Nizuk of Burlingame; sister, Mary Ghent of Redwood City and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Ghent is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Rose Ghent and sisters, Margaret Ghent and Celia Dixon-San Felipe. He will be sadly missed by his dear friends and "adopted" family, the Mendozas, Jaime, Maria, Rosa Maria, Roberto and Mrs. Rosa Mendoza. Barney will be greatly missed by his dear son and his best friend, Phillip. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 10, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Flowers at Cherokee Memorial Park, Hwy. 99 & Harney Lane, Lodi. The U.S. Marine Honor Guard will provide Military Honors. Inurnment will be private. on February 7, 2006.5

Schoeff, 80, of rural Bluffton, passed away at 6:58 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Meadowvale Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born on July 22, 1932, in Greentown to Floyd and Eugenia (Chism) Schoeff, he married Jayne E. Cobbum on Aug. 30, 1985, in Elizabethtown, Ky; she survives. He was a 1950 graduate of Portland High School, where he participated on the basketball, football and baseball teams. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1955, stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. Jack was a forklift mechanic at General Electric in Fort Wayne, retiring after many years. He also served as the union president there. He helped start Bluffton Recycling and worked as a sales rep for Battery Power Systems in Fort Wayne. He attended the Bluffton First Church of Christ and was a member of the Bluffton American Legion Post 111. He was a past member of the Jaycees, was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling and euchre. Jack was a big I.U. fan. Other survivors include three daughters, Stephenia E. (Don) Butterfield of Muncie, Melanie L. McKee of Bluffton, and Cindy M. (Todd) Sheetz of Waynetown; two sons, Scott (Gay) Schoeff of Bluffton and Everett G. Schoeff of Peru; three stepdaughters, Camela K. (Lee) Hanlon of Fort Wayne, Cheryl L. (Doug) Harris of Monroe, and Crystal R. (Steve) Lutz of Ossian; a stepson, Curtis A. (Lora) Schorey of Bluffton; two brothers, Donnie (Mary) Schoeff of Coushatta, La., and Boyd (Esther) Schoeff of Ossian; 20 grandchildren; and 21 greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Pearl Schoeff, and one grandchild. Services will be held Sunday, Feb. 17, at 2 p.m. at Goodwin-Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel with Larry Sprinkle officiating. Calling hours there are Saturday from 1 to 7 p.m. and Sunday for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Elm Grove Cemetery at a later date. Burial rites will be provided by the U.S. Air Force in conjunction with the Bluffton American Legion Post 111. Preferred memorials are to Family LifeCare of Berne. on February 15, 2014.3
