Freda Mae Barr Freda Mae (Barr) Boocks, age 73, of Venus, died at 2:53 a.m. on Friday, October 22, 2010, at the Hospice House in Shippenville, where she most recently resided. Born November 21, 1936, at home in Cranberry Township, Venango County, she was a daughter of the late Roy E. and Freda Lewis Barr. Mrs. Boocks was a 1955 graduate of Oil City High School. In her earlier years, she was employed with the Purolator Corporation in Seneca. She was a member of the United Evangelical Church in Venus. Mrs. Boocks was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Post 464 in Oil City, and Acacia Grotto in Oil City. She was an avid bingo player, enjoyed sewing, and the company of her family. She was married in Frewsburg, N.Y. on January 7, 1956 to Darwin E. “Red” Boocks, who preceded her in death on June 10, 2001. Surviving are nine children, Dennis R. Boocks and wife Angela of Venus, Cindy A. Knight and husband Mark of Knox, Mary E. Cochran and husband Ed , Nancy J. Shreffler and husband Albert, Daniel E. Boocks and wife Dee all of Oil City, Sue L. Moorehead of Seneca, Richard E. Boocks and wife Cindy of Oil City, Barbara J. Myers and husband Robert of Knox, and Sandra L. Albaugh and husband James of Venus; twenty-one grandchildren, Brandon Boocks, Cameron Cochran, Kyle Boocks, Jacob Knight, Courtney Cochran, Ashley Knight, Brad, Colby and Shae Johnson, Amy Boocks, Amanda Perea and husband Diogenes Brandon, Joseph Shreffler, Michael Boocks and wife Stacey, Craig Moorehead, Jay Shreffler and wife Melissa, Eric Moorehead, Jaime Sherbine and husband Don, Brenda Brown and husband Mike, Beth Albaugh, Christine Cataldo and husband Russell, and Kimberlee Cherico and husband Fred; fifteen great-grandchildren, Madison Boocks, Gabriel and Noah Shreffler, Leroy and Gabriella Boocks, Taylor Sherbine, Jake Moorehead, Luca, Ava and Nicholas Cherico, Emily J. Brown, Brittany Smalley, Christian R. Brown, Seth Cataldo, and Blake Cataldo and wife Olivia. Also surviving are five sisters, Claribel Bucholz, Janet Flannigan and husband Terry, Shirley Chatley and husband Lester, Dawn Butler and husband Vi, and Nancy Frank and husband Clinton; two brothers, William Barr and wife Pat and Larry Barr and wife Janice; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Barr and Peg Ortolla; and a brother-in-law, Bob Ream. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Erick D. Boocks and Gregory Becker; a brother, Roy Barr; a sister, Jean Ream; a son-in-law, Thomas J. Becker; a brother-in-law Paul Bucholz; a sister-in-law Montez Davis; a half-sister-in-law, Pat Chapin; her mother-in-law, Mary L. William Banks Barr II William Banks Barr, II, 86, of Columbus, Georgia passed away Sunday, September 15, 2019 at Columbus Hospice House. William was born September 3, 1933 in Rockland, Pennsylvania to Roy Eugene Barr and Freada Elizabeth Lewis. He graduated from Oil City High School and served in the United States Army. William went on to work at Autex for 19 years as a textile spinner before retiring from Greenleaf in 2002 after 14 years of service. He was a member of Salvation Army and enjoyed talking with truckers on his CB radio. Shirley travelled the U.S. with her husband who served in the United States Navy and has been residing in the St. Augustine area since 1978. After 25 years of dedicated employment with Walgreens she retired. Everyone who came in Walgreen's knew Shirley. She had a very big heart, Shirley and her husband were very charitable. The 5 years leading up to her retirement they always donated Easter baskets, Halloween goodie bags and Christmas gifts for all the children at the Betty Griffin House. She loved Bingo, scratch offs and enjoyed painting with a twist, but more than anything she loved her family. She is survived by her husband of 58 years in June, Lester Chatley; daughter, Marie Colee (Mike); son, Lester Chatley (Gretchen); siblings, Nancy Frank, Clara Bucholz, Dawn Butler, Bill Barr, Larry Barr; grandchildren, Russell Hobbs, Jr., Raegan Colee, Rylee Colee. She was predeceased by her siblings, Roy Barr, Frieda Boocks, Jean Ream, and Janet Flanagan. on May 19, 2018.3

His Social Security Number was 189-14-4249.6 Darwin Eugene “Red” Boocks Darwin Eugene "Red" Boocks, 77, of Venus, died Sunday June 10, 2001, at his home following an extended illness. Born June 14, 1924 in Sawtown, he was a son of Thomas and Mary L. Hoover Beach Boocks. While in school Mr. Boocks worked at the former Seep Brothers Hardware Store in downtown Oil City. He entered the U.S. Navy Jan. 19, 1943, and served until March 5, 1946, aboard the USS Wickes Destroyer DD578. He was the recipient of the Pacific Theatre Ribbon with four stars, Good Conduct Medal American Theater Ribbon Victory Medal and Philippines Liberation Ribbon with two stars. Mr. Boocks attended the Welch's Business College in Oil City after his military duty. He worked several years for the Pennsylvania Railroad, 15 years for Oil City Sand & Gravel and later for numerous construction companies in the area, mainly L. O. Bouquin Co. and Strickland Construction. Mr. Boocks was a lifetime member of International Laborers No. 363. He was a lifetime member since 1950 of the Francis B. Pritchard Post No. 464 of Oil City, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served as post commander from 1964 through 1968, 1971 to 1972, 1997 to 1998. He served as district commander in 1964. Mr. Boocks was a member of the Seam Squirrel Cooties and held numerous other positions within the VFW. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, holding membership in Oil City Lodge No. 710 F. & A.M. Valley of Oil City and Valley of New Castle. It was a former member of the Zem Zem Shrine Club in Erie. Mr. Boocks was a past president of the Pennsylvania Grotto Association and was commissioned as a "Kentucky Colonel" for his distinguished service by Secretary of State John W. Brown and Governor Paul E. Patton. He was a monarch of the Acacia Grotto in Oil City and was an Acacia clown, having performed in many parades as "Pea Pot the Clown." He was a member since 1970 of the United Evangelical Church in Venus. In his earlier years, Mr. Boocks enjoyed hunting, archery and bowling. Mr. Boocks was married in Frewsburg, N.Y. on Jan. 7, 1956 to Freda Mae Barr, who survives. Also surviving are nine children, Dennis R. Boocks and his wife Angela, of Venus, Cindy L. Knight and her husband Mark of Knox, Mary E. Cochran and her husband, Ed, Nancy L. Shreffler and her husband Albert, Daniel E. Boocks and wife Dee all of Oil City, Sue L. Other survivors include 18 grandchildren, Brandon Boocks of Venus, Cameron Cochrane, Oil City, Kyle Boocks of Venus, Jacob Knight of Knox, Courtney Cochran of Oil City, Ashley Knight of Knox, Amy Boocks, Amanda Boocks, Joseph Shreffler and Michael Boocks, all of Oil City, Craig Moorehead of Franklin, Jay Shreffler of Albion, N.Y., Eric Moorehead Jr. of Franklin, Jamie Albaugh of Tylersburg, Brenda Brown and husband Michael, Knox, Beth Albaugh of Venus, Christina Cataldo and her husband, Russell, of Knox, and Kimberlee Cherico and her husband Fred, of Clarion; and six great-grandchildren, Nicholas Cherico of Clarion, Emily Brown of Knox, Brittany Smalley of Franklin, and Christian Brown, Seth Cataldo and Blake Cataldo, all of Knox. He is also survived by a sister, Peg Ortolla of Pleasantville. In addition to his parents, Mr. Boocks was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Eric D. Boocks and Gregory Becker; a son-in-law, Thomas J. Becker; a brother, Earl Boocks; and a half sister, Pat Chapin. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Osenider Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Richard A. Kitelinger, pastor of the United Evangelical Church in Venus, officiating.
