In addition to his parents, his sister, Alice Williams, also preceded him in death. A graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Class of 1970, Darrell was a member of Bethel Freewill Baptist Church. A former coal miner and welder, he last worked at Consolidated Cable. Darrell was the dear husband of Delilah Ruth Tolliver Gillespie; the fond brother of David Gillespie and his wife, Tammy, and Kay Pegram and her husband, Michael, all of Beckley; and the son-in-law of Jesse and Carrie Tolliver of Pierpoint. A large extended family also survives. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, with the Revs. Bill Calhoun and Scott Lester officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. The family will receive friends noon until time of service. Pallbearers will be Scott Pegram, Robert Hilton, Brian and Brad Gillespie, Darren Copley and Rick Dixon. on May 23, 2008.2

Services will be held tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. in Armstrong Funeral Home at Whitesville by the Rev. Willie August. Burial will be in the Mordue Cemetery. The body is at the funeral home. on May 13, 1961.2

Gayle was a faithful member of Antioch Advent Christian Church, Aaron's Fork, where she played the piano and enjoyed singing. She is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Charles "Chuck" Samples; parents, Rev. Lilbren M. Ashby and Virgie Paxton Ashby; and four brothers and five sisters; and son-in-law, Randy Blackshire. Gayle is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Regina "Gina Lynn" Blackshire. Wonderful granddaughters Mandy KC Paige and Bob Paige; and Stephanie Blackshire and Shane Harrison, wonderful grandson, and wife, Joshua and Jessica Blackshire, great grandchildren, Ainsley Jade Call, Paisley Harris, Justin Dale Phillips, Cody Allen Phillips, Remington Paige, Jayden Warren Blackshire.
