After attending Bellefonte High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving with the Sea Bees during World War II in the South Pacific on Guam. Upon discharge he worked for many years at The Warner Company and later owned Reed's Auto Repair in Milesburg. In 1997 he retired from the Milesburg Borough. In addition to his wife, Mervine is survived by one daughter Susan Rhenish (Keith) of Coraopolis; and one son, Donald (Kimberly Traxler) of Bellefonte. He is also survived by two granddaughters and two grandsons; as well as one great-grandson and two great-granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews. His sister Ora Eckley of Bellefonte also survives. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Robert, his son Bill, and grandson Jeff. Mervine was an avid gun collector and hunter. He especially enjoyed hunting rattlesnakes with his nephew Joe. He was a member of the NRA and the famous "Over The Hill Gang." Friends will be received Thursday, July 5, 2007, from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, Milesburg. There will be a memorial service immediately following with the Reverend Alex Dyakiw officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. on July 3, 2007.⁴
