Barner was a special man whose true passion was dedicating himself and his life to his family. He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife of 43 years, Judith Sleeman Barner. His children, Jodell Barner and Jason Barner, were the pride and joy of his life. Also surviving are his favorite daughterinlaw Michele Nuhfer Barner and his two grandchildren that he adored, Alaina and Curtis Barner. Jack was an avid and respected outdoorsman and sportsman. He loved all sports, but his true favorite was football. Jack was an allstar football player in his day and he especially loved watching the Kane Wolves play under the leadership of his son, Jason. Mr. Barner served in the Navy during the Vietnam Era. He was an engineer in the boiler plant at Warren State Hospital. He belonged to the Sheffield VFW Color Honor Guard and was a lifelong member of the Sheffield Sports Boosters. He also belonged to the Kane Fish and Game Club, the Kalbfus Rod and Gun Club, the Sheffield Rod and Gun Club and was a member of the American Legion in Sheffield. Born August 20, 1941, in Kane, he was a son of Cecil and Harriet Porter Barner. On October 9, 1965, in Clarendon, he married Judith Sleeman, who survives. He is also survived by two sisters, Inez (Kirby) Lindsey of Sheffield and Ardith Knopf of Warren; two brothers, Donald (Becky) Hilyer of Warren and Herman (Josephine) Hilyer of Erie; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Almeda Hilyer Barner; five brothers, Raymond Barner, Arthur Barner, Richard Barner, Gene Barner and Harry Hilyer; and three sisters, Beatrice Nuhfer, Irma Spicer and Ann Asel. Friends will be received Tuesday from 24 and 79 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, 110 Church Street, Sheffield, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with The Rev. Donald Costlow, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Sheffield Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Sheffield VFW Color Honor Guard. The Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. in Kane is in charge of arrangements. on August 4, 2009.1

Barner, 69, of Van Ettan Avenue, Sheffield, died peacefully while surrounded by her children and following a brief illness on Monday, May 19, 2014 at Warren General Hospital. Born Oct. 22, 1944, in Kane, she was a daughter of William E. and Dorothy A. Anderson Sleeman. On Oct. 9, 1965, in Sheffield, she married Jack V. Barner, her husband and best friend, whom she had greatly missed since his death in 2009. The most important thing in life to Judy was being there for her family, especially her grandchildren. She was an avid sports fan and was a loyal and well-loved "fixture" at almost all of her grandchildren's events. She also showed that same support for her grandchildren's friends and could be heard cheering for each and every one of them as if they were her own. Before her retirement in 2002, Judy was employed as a registered nurse at Warren General Hospital for almost 40 years. She belonged to Bethany Lutheran Church, the Sheffield Rod & Gun Club, and the Sheffield Vets Club. Surviving are a daughter, Jodell Barner of Shef-field; a son, Jason (Michele) Barner of Kane; two grandchildren, Alaina Barner and Curtis Barner, both of Kane; a brother, John (Anne) Sleeman in Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. Funeral services for Judith "Judy" A. Barner will be held Thursday, May 22 at 11 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, 110 Church St., Sheffield, with The Rev. David Blank, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Sheffield Cemetery. on May 20, 2014.2

McClellan, aged 70 years passed away February 7, 1926, at his residence in Sheffield. He had been in ill health for some time but the end came suddenly. He was born at Strattanville on August 30, 1855. He was a citizen of Clarion county for many years. He moved to Saybrook where he lived a number of years before going to Sheffield where he bought the Paul property in December. He is survied by his wife, an adopted son Edward, of Sheffield; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Fred Tesmer, of Cleveland O; two brothers, James, of Kane, and Charles, of Blackwell, Okla; and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Miller, of Kane; Mrs. J. M. Forquer, of Fort Worth, Texas; and Margaret of Knox, Pa. Interment was made in the Barnes Cemetery with Rev. Davidson, of tne Methodist Episcopal Church officiating. on February 18, 1926.5

Emeline "Emma" McClellan Mrs. Emma Gruber, wife of Jacob M. Gruber of Sistersville, W. Va., at the age of 51 years 4 months and 28 days passed to her reward in the better world beyond on January 13, 1909 after an illness extending over a period of over four months. She had been taken to Wheeling for treatment and an operation, but it was decided that the operation could not help her and she was taken back home. The deceased was a Christian of the most exemplary character, her religion manifesting itself always in doing good to and for others and not in seeking good for herself. She was born in Clarion county, Pa., August 15, 1858 and became the wife of Jacob Gruber in 1875. To them were born six children, five of whom survive. Her mother, Mrs. W. F. McClelland of Clarion county, and a brother, Charles McClellan of Ohio were present at the time of her death. Her funeral was held from the Methodist church of which she had been a member of many years and her remains were laid to rest to await the resurrection of the just.3 She was buried at Oakwood Cemetery, Sistersville, Tyler Co., West Virginia.4 She was born on August 15, 1858 at Clarion Co., Pennsylvania.3 As of 1875,her married name was Gruber.3 She married Jacob Mooney Gruber in 1875.3 Emeline "Emma" McClellan died on January 13, 1909 at Sistersville, Tyler Co., West Virginia, at age 50.5,3

McClellan, died at 5:30 a.m. today in Warren General Hospital where she had been a patient for the past two weeks. She was born at Kinzua on June 22, 1884, and had lived in that vicinity all her life. She was a member of the St. Luke's Episcopal church at Kinzua and of its Altar Guild; also the Royal Neighbors and the Auxiliary to the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. Besides her husband, she leaves one son, Stanley E., of Olean, N.Y; two grandchildren, Gary E. and Sharon Lea McClellan, both of Olean; three brothers and one sister, E. R. Tuttle, Hamburg, N.Y., Mrs. Mettie Cookingham, Olean. Removal has been made to the Peterson Funeral Home where friends will be received at the regular hours from two p.m. Wednesday until noon on Friday. The body will be then be taken to the Saint Luke's church at Kinzua for services at two o'clock the same afternoon. The Rev. Beecher M. Rutledge, Warren, will officiate and interment will follow in the Kinzua cemetery. on October 17, 1950.1
