     Dean Dwight Martin Dean Dwight Martin, 81, of Summerville, died Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, at DuBois Regional Medical Center. Born Sept. 27, 1930, in Summerville, he was the son of the late Arthur Hutchinson and Mary L. Himes Martin. Dean received his education at the Summerville School and graduated in 1948 from SummervilleRed Bank Jointure. After graduation he was employed by J.F. Bowser and Son. After his service time he returned to Bowser's Market where he worked as a meat cutter and manager until 1969. He entered the armed services during the Korean Conflict in February 1952. Dean received his basic training at Fort Dix, N.J., where he also served as a meat cutter. He went to Korea where he served as a radio operator in the Headquarters Battery of the 69th Field Artillery Battalion, 25 Infantry Division. He was honorably discharged in February 1954. After he retired he located the 10 servicemen who were together in Korea. Some met for reunions and stayed in touch through the Internet. In 1969, he went to work at the Brookville Post Office as a clerk-carrier. Later he was O.I.C. at Sigel and postmaster at Mayport. He retired in 1992. He was a life member of NARFE and NAPUS. He was a member of Summerville United Methodist Church. Over the years he was a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School superintendent, trustee and chairman of the board. In his younger days he was active in Summerville Volunteer Fire Department. He helped teach the first aid class, which got people to volunteer to take calls with the Summerville Ambulance. He held the offices of financial secretary, president and rescue chief. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and traveling. He was on the water authority for 18 years, and he was vice president part of that time. He saw the water system being updated and sewage being put in the town. Dean was married Dec. 5, 1952, in the Methodist Parsonage at Callensburg, by the Rev. Merle Wonderling, to the former E. Christena Gourley. They have been married 58 years. Dean is survived by his wife; a son, Carl and his wife, Kelly Martin, of Erie; and a sister-in-law, Trishia Martin of Punxsutawney. Along with his parents, Dean was preceded in death by two sons, baby boy Martin and Craig Douglas Martin; two brothers, Norman (Jean) and Nelson Martin; and two sisters, Vivian (Jay) Barnett and Phyliss (Harold) Hamm. The family will receive friends from noon to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Furlong Funeral Home, Gregory K. Furlong funeral director, corner of Broad Street and First Avenue in Summerville. Friends will also be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday prior to the service at 11 a.m. Monday at Summerville United Methodist Church with the Rev. William Saxman officiating. Interment will be at Vandervort Cemetery, Clover Township, Jefferson County.      William Osman Zerbe was buried at Tylersburg Cemetery, Tylersburg, Clarion Co., Pennsylvania.1,3,2 He was born on August 13, 1852 at Highland Township, Clarion Co., Pennsylvania.3,2 He married Melinda "Linnea" Hulings, daughter of John Hulings and Mary Ann Walters, on March 8, 1886 at Clarion, Clarion Co., Pennsylvania.4,5,6 William Osman Zerbe died on December 24, 1928 at Lucinda, Clarion Co., Pennsylvania, at age 76.3,2 He William Zerby, a highly esteemed and life-long citizen of Lucinda, passed away at 12:15 a.m. on Monday, December, 24, 1928, aged 76 years, 4 months and 11 days. He had been in poor health for months and the last three weeks he suffered the effects of a stroke, at the time of his brief illness Mr. Zerbe was a Christian, bearing his suffering without a murmur he never complained and said he was ready to go whenever God will. Mr. Zerbe was the son of Peter and Katharine (Osman) Zerbe. He was the sixth child in a family of seven and he was born in Highland township at the Zerbe Mill which was the owned by his grandfather. When a small child his father purchased a farm in Knox township where William grew to manhood and also made his home his entire life being engaged in farming he worked in the oil fields during the oil excitement of Lucinda, and later on in the interest in Forest county and the latter part of his life he spent at farming. Mr. Zerbe is survived by his wife, Lynn and by the following children: Floyd, of Watson; Mrs. George Ledebur, Sheffield; and Homer and Howard at home; and one brother Soloman;, of Lucinda. He was preceded in death by his father and mother and by two brothers and three sisters namely: Mrs. Maria Dunkle, Mrs. Sarah Bixler, Mrs. Carolina Dahle, Edward and Farswell. He is also survived by ? grandchildren. The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 27th services being conducted by ?. After a brief service at his residence the funeral cortege proceeded to Tylersburg were held at the Church, many beautiful floral tributes were in evidence. He was laid to rest in the Tylersburg Cemetery, six of his nephews acting as pallbearers, namely: Mwssrs: Scott and Archie Zerbe, James and Elmer Dunkle, Charles and Albert Dahle. on January 3, 1929.3

Zerbe, 82, of Cranberry RD 1, a veteran of World War I, died at 11:15 p.m. Wednesday in the Franklin Hospital, following an extended illness. Born December 23, 1890, at Lucinda, he was a son of William and Linnea Hulings Zerbe. He had lived in the Knox-Kossuth area since 1947. Mr. Zerbe, a driller and farmer all his life, joined the military in 1918 and was discharged in 1919, serving a number of months overseas. In his earlier years, he attended the Helen Furnace Methodist Church. He was married in 1926 to the former Amanda Pfendler, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Charles (Virginia) Kapp of Cranberry RD 1, Mrs. J. B. (Bernice) Knight of Knox RD and Mrs. William (Charlotte) Bradish of Aschaffenberg, Germany; four sons, Howard of St. Petersburg, William and Dennis of Knox RD and Robert Zerbe of Cranberry RD 1; a sister, Mrs. George (Cora) Ledebur of Whittier, Calif., and 21 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald; two brothers, Howard and Floyd, a grandson and a daughter-in-law. Friends are being received at the Roy P. Stuart Funeral Home in Knox. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Rev. Gene A. Lenk, pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, at Kossuth, will officiate. Interment will be in Tylersburg Cemetery. on August 24, 1973.11

Born December 7, 1893, at Lucinda, he was the son of William and Linnea Huling Zerbe. He was married November 17, 1917, in Jamestown, N. Y., to the former Leona Irene Shattenberg, who survives. Mr. Zerbe was a member of the Methodist Church, the Canby Lodge No. 520 F. & A. M. of St. Petersburg and the Eagles Club of Kane. He was a veteran of World War I. Surviving besides his widow are two daughters Bonetta E. Zerbe and Lawanda M. Shaffer, both of Erie; one son, Floyd Charles Zerbe, Jr. of Parker RD 2; one sister, Mrs. George Ledebur of Silver Springs, Md., and one brother, Homer Zerbe of Knox. Also surviving are seven grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Karle D. McKinney Funeral Home in St. Petersburg after 2 p.m. today. Services will be held in the funeral home at 2:30 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Metz of the Parker Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in the Sunset Hill Memorial Park at Cranberry. on October 27, 1961.2

McKinney Funeral Home in St. Petersburg for Mrs. Leona Zerbe, 74, of Erie, formerly of Parker RD 2. Mrs. Zerbe, widow of Floyd Zerby, died December 28 in the Hamot Medical Center in Erie. Rev. Ralph Richardson, pastor of Christ United Methodist Church in Erie, officiated. Interment was in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.      Howard Robinson Zerbe was buried at Tylersburg Cemetery, Tylersburg, Clarion Co., Pennsylvania.1 He Knox - Howard Robinson Zerbe, 50, of Knox R. D. 1 former employee of the Forest Oil Company of Bradford where he worked as a driller, died in the Oil City Hospital on Tuesday, Dec. 2. at 4:25 a.m. of injuries received on Monday in a fall while at work in the Imperial Works plant of the Oil Well Supply Co. Mr. Zerbe suffered a fractured skull. A certificate of accidental death was issued by Dr. T. S. Gadreski of Oil City, deputy coroner. According to reports, Zerbe had climbed up on a hoist and was hammering out a pin while holding on to a protruding handle. In attempting to change his hold, Zerbe fell about eight feet and struck his head on the concrete floor. He was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed less than ten hours after being admitted. Deceased was born in Lucinda on Feb. 17, 1897, and lived there practically all his life. For a number of years he was employed by the Forest Oil Corp., of Bradford as a driller. About six years ago he entered the employ of the Oil well Supply Co. as an assembly man. He moved to near Knox last June. Survivors include a brother Homer Zerbe, of Route 1, with whom he resided, his mother, Mrs. Linda H. Zerbe; another brother, Floyd Zerbe of Foxburg, and a sister, Mrs. George Ledebur of Sheffield. Six nephews and seven nieces also survive. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Services will be held at a time to be announced.1,2 He was born on February 17, 1897 at Lucinda, Clarion Co., Pennsylvania; The SSDI has a birth date of Mar 17, 1897.2,3,9,10 He died on December 2, 1947 at Oil City, Venango Co., Pennsylvania, at age 50.2

The 1870 Census supports 1862.2,4,1 As of November 1, 1884,her married name was Zerbe.2 She married Solomon "Saul" Zerbe on November 1, 1884.2,3 Elizabeth "Eliza" Hulings died on January 7, 1954 at Lucinda, Clarion Co., Pennsylvania, at age 91.2,4 She CLARION, Jan. 7. — Mrs. Elizabeth Hulings Zerbe, 88, died at 1:45 a.m. January 7 in her home at Lucinda, R. D., She was born in Lucinda, March 15, 1865, a daughter of John Hulings and Mary Ann Walters Hulings. On November 1, 1884, she was married to Sol Zerbe, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Zerbe was a member of the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church at Shippenville. Surviving are one brother, Walter Hulings, of Pleasantville; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Cramer, New Kensington; Mrs. Lottie Burkhardt, Lucinda; two sons, Scott Zerbe, Clarion and Archie Zerbe, Corsica; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The body was removed to the Burkhardt home in Lucinda. on January 8, 1954.2
