Dillon of Martinsville; and two grandchildren. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home. The Rev. David Cameron will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home. Dillon was born Oct. 17, 1924, in Martinsville to Annie Wyatt Hall Dillon and Harvel Trotter “H.T.” Dillon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Curtis L. Dillon and Dwight L. Dillon Sr. He attended Martinsville High School and left early to enlist in the Navy. His tour of active duty included the D-Day Invasion of June 6, 1944. He was honorably discharged in April 1946, and he returned to Martinsville and completed high school. He then graduated from Virginia Southern Business School in Roanoke. As a member of the Navy Reserve, he was called back to duty and served on the USS Boxer during the Korean Conflict. After his second honorable discharge, he returned to Martinsville and went to work for Lester Industries. In 1967, Dillon teamed with Paul Dodson and Don Eanes to start a repair business known as The Electric Company. He retired from full-time employment in 1998. Surviving are several nieces, nephews and great nieces, and one great nephew. on September 24, 2010.2

Dillon, 57, a locally nationally and internationally known insurance businessman, died Wednesday in Washington, D.C. of an apparent heart attack while he was attending an insurance convention. Dillon was president of Dillon Insurance Agency Inc. of Bassett and was elected president of the Independent Insurance Agents of America Inc (IIAA) the largest association of independent insurance agents in the country, in September of 1986. Dillon was born Oct. 24, 1931, in Martinsville, Va., the son of the late Annie Hall Dillon and the late H.T. Dillon. In 1950 Dillon graduated from Martinsville High School; and in 1955 he graduated from Elon College. He was a member of the Advisory Board of Dominion Bank of Bassett, Va., and a member of the Bassett Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a past president of the Kiwanis Club of Bassett and he was a past lieutenant governor of the second division of the Capital District Kiwanis International. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Bassett Memorial United Methodist Church. Entombment will be in the Bassett Mausoleum. Surviving: wife, Mrs. Roxann Bassett Dillon of the home; sons, Dwight Lynwood Dillon Jr. and Hiram Thomas Dillon, both of Collinsville, Va; daughter, Ruby Ann Dillon, a student at Averett College in Danville, Va; brothers, Aubrey H. Dillon and Curtis L. Dillon both of Martinsville, Va; two grandchildren. on March 16, 1989.7

He was born and grew up in Piney Flats, Tennessee, the son of the late John Tate Love and Carrie Elizabeth Hughes Love. Ernie worked for the Commonwealth of Virginia in various capacities for over 35 years, retiring as the Verona District Manager for the Division of Child Support Enforcement. Throughout his life he served as a lay minister for numerous congregations in the Shenandoah Valley and beyond. He was a graduate of King College and received his Masters Degree from the University of Virginia. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Fred Love and a sister, Mary Ruth Cantrell. He is survived by his wife, Frances Cook Love; his son, Tate Love and wife, Shannon of Staunton; his two brothers, David Love of Waynesboro and John Love and wife, Cathy of Illinois; his two grandchildren, Stuart Love and Duncan Love; his step-daughter Becky Peiler, and husband, Brandon of Fredericksburg, Virginia; his brother-in-law, Phil Cantrell and several nieces and nephews. Ernie was known for his work ethic, his generosity and his sense of humor. He was a devout Christian and his family is comforted to know that he is now in the presence of his Savior. But they will surely miss him until they are reunited again. Graveside funeral services will held at 2:00 P.
