The Rev. Hoyt Beasley of the church will conduct the service. The private family service will be at a later date in Maplewood Cemetery. Mr. Wright died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan. He was a professor in the department of music at Emporia State University from 1966 until he retired in 2001. He served as acting associate chair and associate chair for music and acting chair for the division of music. He also was associate band director and jazz ensemble director and trombonist with the Faculty Brass Quintet. He had taught music in schools in Brownfield and Albany, Texas. He taught at North Texas State University and was instructor of trombone at the National Music Camp in Interlochen, Mich. He was principal trombone with the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra and the Oklahoma City Symphony Tour Orchestra, performed with the American Wind Ensemble and was a member of the faculty and staff orchestra at Interlochen. Thomas Edward Wright III, the son of Thomas Edward Jr. and Mary Alice Brian Wright, was born Sept. 4, 1936, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He received a bachelor's degree in music from North Texas State College and a master's in music education from the University of Illinois at Urbana. He studied for an advanced degree in trombone at North Texas State University. He married Anita Anderson on Aug. 16, 1958, in San Angelo, Texas. She survives. Mr. Wright was a member of the Church of Christ, where he was an elder, teacher and song leader. He helped organize the State Music Festival on the ESU campus. He played in the city band and was co-director of the Clark Terry Great Plains Summer Jazz Camp until 1984. He also is survived by two sons, Richard Wright of Atlanta, Ga., and Mark Wright of Lafayette, Calif; his father of Brownsville; three brothers, David Wright of Livingston, Texas, Emmett Wright of Harlingen, Texas, and Paul Wright of Brownsville; and seven grandchildren. His mother died in March. on October 1, 2003.²
