Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Iaeger Memorial church at Roderfleld, conducted by the Rev. W. S. Barbery of Iaeger. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Roderfield cemetery. He was born October 21, 1925, at Arlington, W. Va. During the past war, young Poff served two and one-half years with the U.S. Navy and participated in the invasion of Normandy, France. He enlisted in the army about a year ago. Surviving are his father, William Rex Poff, Christiansburg, Va; his mother, Mrs. Dora Anderson Poff; one brother, William Poff, Iaeger; one sister, Miss Margaret Poff, Baltimore, Md; and a half brother and half sister, Hazel and Garland Anderson, Iaeger. on June 2, 1948.1

He fought valiantly for 5 months. He was given the privilege to say all of his goodbyes to family and friends during his illness. Born August 25, 1936 in Kanawha County, Doug was a son of the late Charles E. and Virgie Lavender. Early in life, he served his country through the Naval branch of the armed services. He worked for 50 years as a painter with Painters Local 970. He was loved and respected by many and will be immensely missed! He was a man of few words, but had a heart that loved many. Doug had a full and wonderful life that encompassed 52 years of marriage to the love of his life, Joyce, and that produced four children: daughter, Pamella Dawson and son-in-law, Mark, of Scott Depot; son, Anthony Lavender and beloved daughter-in-law, Deanna Garrett; daughter, Letha "Flossie" Sylvester and son-in-law, Richard, of Winfield; and son, Douglas Lavender Jr. of St. Albans; brothers, the Rev. Malcom Lavender of Ft. Gratiot, Mich., and Calvin Lavender and Thomas Lavender, both of St. Albans; sister, Joyce Emajean Williams of Hurricane; his grandchildren, Heather, Brian, Victoria, Faith, Shelby, Lydia and Madison ("He loved them all best!"); and great-grandchildren, Isabella, Olivia and Josiah. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2011 at King's River Worship Center, 777 Mallory Lane, St. Albans. A private graveside service will be held on the family farm. The family would like to give special thanks to the physicians that cared for him: Dr. Frame, Dr. Aziz and Dr. McCallum; and his nurses, Janelle and Joan. Special mention to Pastor David Bowen, our angel and friend; and also Shelly Wriston, who supported us during this time. on December 21, 2011.3
