     Ernest Paul Arbaugh Ernest “Paul” Arbaugh, 81, husband of Venecia Arbaugh, left this world peacefully in his home on, Monday Oct. 20, 2014. He was born on Sept. 17, 1933, on Muddy Creek, Mt., Alderson , WV; son of the late Alexander Taylor Arbaugh Sr. and Amanda Susan Ballengee Arbaugh of Alderson. Also preceding him in death are his siblings, Clara Belle Anderson of Lewisburg, WV, Robert Arbaugh, Marion Arbaugh, and Alexander Arbaugh Jr. all of Waynesboro. After playing four years of high school football for the legendary coach Abe McLaughlin, he graduated from Alderson High with the class of 1952, he went on to marry his high school sweetheart in 1953, and then entered the armed forces. Arbaugh, was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Army from 1953-1955 and the Army Reserve from 1956-1961. Finally settling in Waynesboro, he gave thirty three years of service to DuPont. When Paul wasn’t found at home cheering on the West Virginia Mountaineers, he could be found many nights at either Eastside Speedway or Stuarts Draft High School enjoying what he loved most, football and racing. He was a former member of St. Marks United Methodist Church in Waynesboro, and a longtime member of Calvary United Methodist Church of Stuarts Draft. Survivors include his wife Venecia Elmore Arbaugh of Stuarts Draft, his brother Clarence “Harold” Arbaugh of Freemont, NE, his sister Lorene Huffman of Hinton, WV; his son Richard “Dicky” Arbaugh, and two grandchildren Jacob and Sarah Arbaugh, all of Staunton. Honorary Pallbearers are his DuPont co-workers and his fellow racing group, Mark Tyree, Tom Goforth, Bobby Arbaugh, Rusty Arbaugh, Mike Armentrout , and Roger Welcher. A graveside service will conducted at 2:00 p.m. at Augusta Memorial Park on Thursday October 23, 2014 with Rev. Mr. Hedrick was born in Alderson, W.Va., on Jan. 26, 1917, and settled on the Peninsula in 1942, where he became a member of the welding department at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co. He retired from the shipyard as a welding supervisor in 1977 after 35 years of faithful service. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Mary E. Hedrick, formerly of Monroe County, W.Va; and his devoted daughter, Barbara J. Hedrick of Newport News. Mr. Hedrick was a longtime member of Parkview Baptist Church in Newport News, where he attended the Steadfast-Simpson Baptist Class. He was also a member of the Peninsula Retired Men's Club, the Shipyard Retirees Breakfast Club and Mended Hearts Chapter 119 and a past president of the Exchange Club of Denbigh. Friends and relatives, countless nieces and nephews will cherish the memory of Mr. Hedrick as a loving, giving, friendly and honest man who will be sorely missed by his community and his family. The family will receive friends Monday, July 5, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Alderson Baptist Church, Alderson, W.Va., Wednesday, July 7, followed by interment at the Alderson Cemetery. on July 3, 1999.2
