He was born on June 19, 1950, and grew up in Greenville, W.Va. He met his wife Trixie when they were teenagers, and devoted his life to his family, his church and serving others in Christiansburg, Va. Sonny was a faithful member of Belmont Christian Church in Christiansburg where he served on many committees and service projects and as a deacon and elder. After his retirement, he was tasked to be the foreman of constructing the new church building Belmont currently uses and was often the one the staff called first when something at the church was broken. When not serving at church, Sonny volunteered his talents on several building sites and in the Restore. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, camping and woodworking. His passing was preceded by his parents, Dewey "Otis" Long Sr. and Vivian Hedrick Long of Greenville, W.Va., and his wife of 40 years, Trixie Wiley Long of Christiansburg.      Nellie J. "Nell" Gore was buried at Powell-Thompson Cemetery, Route 28/6, Elgood, Mercer Co., West Virginia.3,4 She was born on November 28, 1908 at West Virginia.3,4 As of circa 1926,her married name was Hearn.5 She married Eugene "Gene" Hearn circa 1926.3,4,5,6 Nellie J. "Nell" Gore Mrs. Nellie Gore Hearn, 26, who was allegedly shot by her husband at her parents' home on Main street Sunday night, remained in a critical condition at the Memorial hospital Monday afternoon, while her husband, Eugene Hearn, 27, was being held at the county jail pending outcome of her injuries. A bullet from a .38-calibre pistol is imbeded in Mrs. Hearn's body. The bullet entered the left shoulder above the heart and ranged down through her left lung. Due to the weak condition of Mrs. Hearn, physcians were unable to make X-rays or to probe for the bullet. Although conscious, the patient was said to be hanging on to life by a thread. According to investigation conducted by Sheriff J. C. Fanning and other officers, it appears that Hearn became angry when his wife was not at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Gore, when he came from Beckley Sunday night. It is said that he made several trips down town in search of her. Officers were told that Mrs. Hearn had gone to church, and she is quoted as saying that after attending church she went to the home of a friend on Harrison stroet and talked for some time. When she returned home, officers were told that Hern ordered his wife "to get the kids clothes," and that he was going to take the children back to Beckley with him. Mrs. Hearn is quoted as saying "if that is the way you feel about it, all right." Then officers were informed Hearn fired a shot from the pistol, without removing the weapon from a pocket on the right side of his coat. Mrs. Hearn was seated in a chair at the time. Hearn is said to have gone to the Memorial hosnital to summon a physician. Sheriff Fanning and other officers, who were at the Gore home when Hearn returned from the hospital, placed him under arrest. The officers took the pistol from his pocket, it is said. Hearn and his wife have been married for eight years, and have a son, about six years old. Ed Gore, father of the wounded woman, is a well known contractor and carpenter of Princeton. Hearn is a native of Wyoming county. on October 2, 1934.7 She died on December 25, 1934 at Princeton, Mercer Co., West Virginia, at age 26; Shot to death in a homicide.3,4
