     Ellen Frances Smith Ellen Frances Smith Houchins, 83, of Wellford, SC, passed away after a short illness on Tuesday, August 13, 2019. Born August 1, 1936, in Lester, WV, daughter of the late George Clayton and Juanita Mae Shumate Smith; wife of Clayton Leon Houchins, Sr. Employed with Raleigh County schools in West Virginia, teaching children to read for over 30 years. While in West Virginia, she was a devoted member of Memorial Baptist Church. Since coming to South Carolina, Ellen attended Bible Study Fellowship, where she made many wonderful friends. She was a faithful member of Church 247 where she led a weekly prayer group, “Praying for Israel”. Ellen could also be found traveling with her daughter, Debbie, for Hannah’s Hope Ministries. In addition to her husband of 59 years, survived by her daughter, Deborah Ellen "Debbie” Sobeski" (Mickey) of Roebuck, SC; son, Clayton Leon Houchins, Jr., (Hope) of Boiling Springs, SC; three grandchildren, Michael Sobeski (Emily), Andrew Sobeski (Bekah), and Caleb Cabiness (Hannah); two sisters, Wanda O’Dell McGuiness of Ashburn, VA and Florence Martin (Gene) of Poquoson, VA; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her granddaughter, Hannah Marie Sobeski (1988-2006); and a sister, Virginia May Hall. The family received friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, Thursday, August 15, 2019, at Dunbar Funeral Home. Funeral services were at 3:00 pm, Friday, August 16, 2019, at Church 247, 2610 Boiling Springs Road, Boiling Springs, SC, officiated by Pastor Clayton Houchins and Reverend Sal Barone. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.² She was buried at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Spartanburg, Spartanburg Co., South Carolina.² Her married name was Houchins.² She married Clayton Leon Houchins Sr.² Ellen Frances Smith was born on August 1, 1936 at Lester, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.² She died on August 13, 2019 at Spartanburg Co., South Carolina, at age 83.²

Born Dec. 4, 1961, she was the daughter of Charles W. "Bill" Burlingame and the late Liza J. Burlingame. She was employed by Goff's Carry Out, Loudendale, and was a member of the Loudendale Church of the Nazarene. Desta was a person who touched the lives of many people. Surviving: husband, Steven Bruce Lanham; son, Steven Micheal Lanham; stepsons, Steven Bruce Lanham II of Dunbar, Jeremy Keith Lanham and Christopher Steven Lanham of Nashville, Tenn; brother, Charles W. "Chuck" Burlingame II of Jackson, Miss; sisters, Clarice Beaver of Gallipolis, Ohio, Anita Hall, Linda Burlingame and Cynndchildrethia Wheeler, all of Houston, Texas; mother-and father-in-law, Patricia and Danny L. Russell of Charleston; sisters-in-law, Tia Lanham of South Charleston, Kathy O'Neal of St. Albans; many nieces and nephews. Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, May 17, at Loudendale Church of the Nazarene, Loudendale, with Pastor David Clark officiating. Burial will be in the Comer Cemetery, Loudendale. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Good Shepherd Mortuary, South Charleston, is in charge of arrangements. on May 15, 2001.²

     June Millie Buttrick June Buttrick Jones, 83, of Valdosta, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 29, 2013, peacefully in her sleep after a lengthy illness, at the Heritage House Nursing Home. She was born December 27, 1929 in Oak Hill, WV, a daughter of the late Frank and Minnie Epperly Buttrick. In her adult life she made her home in Valdosta. In her earlier years, Ms. Jones worked at the bag plant of Owens-Illinois, later becoming a Traveling Supervisor for Pic-N-Save before retiring. In her retirement she enjoyed fishing with her husband, DeWitt Jones, spending time at their home in Suwanee, FL, and she also enjoyed Gospel music. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church for many years. She is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law, Patricia Sirmans and Winston of Valdosta, Fonda Faye Melton of Moultrie, and Brenda Jane Fogarty of Valdosta; one special son, Franklin Jones of Valdosta; nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; one sister, Zelphia Smith of Charlotte, NC; and a special friend, Shirley Powers of Valdosta. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, DeWitt Jones; two son-in-laws, Bob Melton and Jimmy Fogarty; one great-grandson; six sisters; and three brothers.      Fonder DeWitt Jones Fonder DeWitt Jones, 78 of Valdosta, died on Thursday, May 27, 2004, at his residence after a lengthy illness. Born on July 15, 1925, in Perry, Fla., he was the son of the late Harvey and Nancy Baisden Jones. Mr. Jones was a retired self-employed brick mason. He is survived by his wife, June Jones, Valdosta; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Patricia and Winston Sirmans, Valdosta; Fonda and Bob Melton, Valdosta; Brenda Fogarty, Valdosta; one son, Franklin Harvey Jones, Valdosta; nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one sister, Lucy Ward, Valdosta, Ga; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Zelphia and James Smith, Nashville, Tenn; and numerous nieces and nephews.      Zelphia Mae Buttrick Zelphia Buttrick Smith, February 28, 1932 - September 29, 2014. Zelphia Buttrick Smith went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 29, 2014. She was 82 yrs. old. She passed away at her home in Matthews, NC. Originally from West Virginia, Zelphia also lived in Jacksonville Florida for many years, and also Gallatin, TN. She was retired from Tucker State Bank in Jacksonville, FL. At the time of her death she attended Grace Christian Center Church. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Hendersonville, Hendersonville, TN. She is predeceased in death by her loving husband of 62 yrs. James Smith; her parents, Frank & Minnie Buttrick; her siblings, Ester, Nina, Elmer, Les, Arbutus, Thelma, June, Arvella, Lance, and Shirleen. She is survived by children, Harold Smith (Kathy) of Gallatin, TN, Debbie Smith of Smyrna, GA, and Craig Smith (Sherri) of Matthews NC; her grandchildren Meredith Alexander (David) of Jacksonville, FL, Dustin Smith (Amanda) of Greenville, SC, and Morgan Barron (James) of Charlotte, NC; great grandchildren Logan Alexander of Jacksonville, FL, Faith Alexander of Jacksonville, FL, Brooke Smith of Greenville SC, and Ariana Barron of Charlotte NC. She is also survived by several Nieces & Nephews. A graveside service will follow at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton Georgia on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at 1:30 PM. She was a Faithful Servant; she was a loving wife, Mother and Grandmother. Her home was always open to anyone that needed a place to stay, and for all who knew her, she was a Lady with a lot of class and dignity and a heart of gold.
