He was born in Geneva, Ala. on August 21, 1928, a son of the late Ernest and Fannie Hines Cannon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Cannon; and a brother, Jack Cannon. James graduated from Tennessee High School in 1948 and later attended King College and East Tennessee State University. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Afterward James dedicated himself to educating others and served in both the Virginia and Tennessee school systems. From 1964 through 1988 he taught at Tennessee High School. James was ever the intellectual and fluent in seven languages. He embraced science but loved the arts. His favorite pastimes were reading and listening to classical music. James is survived by his sisters, Joanne Necessary and husband, Eddie, Ruby V. Qualls and husband, Bill, and Alice L. Trivett and husband, George; brother, Robert W. Cannon; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 16, 2014, at the Heritage Chapel of Memories in Glenwood Cemetery, Bristol, Tenn. on November 15, 2014.3

He was born March 31, 1931 in Greenville, South Carolina, and was a son of the late Earnest James and Fannie Ella Hines Cannon. . He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. After serving in the Military he resided in Houston, TX, Chicago, Boston and New York as a cook. He lived most of his life in the Bristol area. He is survived by: Sisters: Alice Lee Trivett and husband George, Ruby Virginia Qualls and husband Bill, Joanne Joyce Necessary; Brothers: Robert William Cannon, James Lewis Cannon; Several Nieces and Nephews. A funeral service will be 11am, Wednesday, December 21, 2011 in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jack Stevens officiating. The burial will follow in Shelby Hills Cemetery with Military Honors by the Bristol VFW Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday evening at the funeral home. She was born in LaFollette, TN. She was a retired Avon lady and a shut-in crippled by rheumatoid arthritis. Nevertheless, she worked tirelessly for her church, the First Church of the Nazarene. She had spent most of her life in Bristol, TN. Her ever-cheerful, smiling face and disposition will be sorely missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Earnest James Cannon; and by her mother, Fannie Ella Hines Cannon. Survivors include three sisters, Alice Lee Cannon Trivett, Lakeside, Mont., Joann Joyce Cannon Necessary, Bristol, VA, and Ruby Virginia Cannon Qualls, Piney Flats, TN; three brothers, Earnest Jack Cannon, Bristol, TN, and Robert William Cannon and James Lewis Cannon, both of the home in Bristol, TN; and special nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George H. Churchwell of First Church of the Nazarene officiating. Special music will be provided by a dear friend, Mr. Jack Thacker of Mendota, VA. The committal will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the graveside in Glenwood Mausoleum Chapel followed by burial in Shelby Hills Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Marvin Arnold, Mr. Sam Crosswhite and Mr. Wayne Lewis. on January 27, 2001.3

Robert lived all of his life in the Bristol area and was a retired contractor specializing in masonry and carpentry. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Elizabeth Cannon; brothers, James L. Cannon and E. “Jack” Cannon. Robert is survived by his sisters, Ruby V. Qualls and husband Bill, Alice L. Trivett and husband George, Joanne J. Necessary and husband Eddie; nieces, Karen Qualls, Joy Thacker, and Becky Thomas; nephews, Randy Qualls and Mark Branson.
