     George W. Lipford was born circa 1829 at Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.¹ He Enlisted as a Private in the Civil War. Served in Captain Motley's Company, Virginia Light Artillery, the Pittsylvania Artillery, and the Ringgold Artillery. George appeared on the Register of the Soldier's Home Hospital in Richmond, Virginia on August 18, 1862. Discharged from the service on August 29, 1862, possibly a medical discharge.
in April, 1862.² He left a will on January 28, 1864 at Pittsylvania Co., Virginia; I George Lipford of the County of Pittsylvania being of sound mind and disposing manner do on this 28th day of January 1864 make the following my last will and testament by these presents revoking all wills by me heretofore made. After the payment of all my just debts I give to my father Daniel Lipford the whole of my estate for his disposition to him and his heirs forever disposing in manner he may think proper. I hereby appoint my father Daniel Lipford my executor.

He was born June 16, 1921, in Martinsville, to Josephine Elliott Doss Washburn and Harry Wade Doss Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Thomas Humphrey. He was an Army veteran, having served during World War II in the Pacific Theater. Doss retired from Virginia/Carolina Trucking Company and was previously employed with Dalton Thomas Texaco. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Wilma Iris Hardison Doss of the home; three daughters, Wanda D. Slaughter, Pamela D. Nuckles and Susan Doss, all of Martinsville; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Norris Funeral Services in Martinsville with Pastor Tom Durrance officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Martinsville. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the home. on January 7, 2013.^2,3

     Belva Marshall "Beb" Austin was buried at Yeatts Family Cemetery, on a hill in a pasture, near the Blue Ridge Parkway, Mayberry, Patrick Co., Virginia.^3,5 He Mr. Belva Marshall Austin, 91, of Meadows of Dan, passed away Friday December 1, at Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax. Mr. Austin was a member of Mayberry Presbyterian Church and was retired from the Corps of Engineers at Philpot and was also a painter. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Phyllis Austin; a son Carroll Austin; and a grandson, Victor Marshall. Surviving are a daughter Roberta Hodges of Meadows of Dan; two grandchildren, Barbara Austin and Linford and Shelia Marshall and one sister, Exie Samuels of Danville, Va. Bagwell, 90, of 106 Holborn Lane, Taylors, died Saturday, June 6, 2009, at his residence. Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Joel Fred and Eva Mull Bagwell and widower of Mozelle Hensley Bagwell. Mr. Bagwell served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and the Pacific Theater. He retired after 43 years in the trucking industry. He was a member of Groveland Baptist Church in Taylors. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Mitzi Bagwell of Greer; five grandchildren, Angela Hudson, Stevie Bagwell, Michael Harrison and wife Nancy, Shauna Bagwell, and Regina Harrison; three great-grandchildren, Destini Bagwell, Austin Hudson, and Hailey Harrison; and one sister, Doris Jane Goldsmith of Travelers Rest. Mr. Bagwell was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda G. Harrison; five brothers; and two sisters. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother. Mrs. Creed was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Hubert Eugene Ring and Jimmy Gray Creed; and her sisters, Avis Lewis, Rachel Vernon and Lucy Tuttle. Surviving are her daughter, Judy Ring (Wayne) Inman of Westfield; five sisters, Mary Ellen (Johnny) Spillman of East Bend, Lavern (Dallas) Cooke of Winston-Salem, Edna Fletcher of Pfafftown, Erma Sides of Boonville and Opal (George) Patterson of Patrick Springs, Va; three brothers, James Terrell (Edna) Padgett of Martinsville, Va., and George (Georgia) Padgett and Richard (Libby) Padgett, both of Patrick Springs, Va; a grandchild, Patrick Wayne (Nicole) Inman; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 31, at Huff Funeral Home Chapel in East Bend, with the Rev. Danny Poole officiating. Burial will follow in the East Bend Friends Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening, July 30, at Huff Funeral Home in East Bend.
