Served in Captain Motley's Company, Virginia Light Artillery, the Pittsylvania Artillery, and the Ringgold Artillery. George appeared on the Register of the Soldier's Home Hospital in Richmond, Virginia on August 18, 1862. Discharged from the service on August 29, 1862, possibly a medical discharge.
in April, 1862.2 He left a will on January 28, 1864 at Pittsylvania Co., Virginia; I George Lipford of the County of Pittsylvania being of sound mind and disposing manner do on this 28th day of January 1864 make the following my last will and testament by these presents revoking all wills by me heretofore made. After the payment of all my just debts I give to my father Daniel Lipford the whole of my estate for his disposition to him and his heirs forever disposing in manner he may think proper. I hereby appoint my father Daniel Lipford my executor.

He was born June 16, 1921, in Martinsville, to Josephine Elliott Doss Washburn and Harry Wade Doss Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Thomas Humphrey. He was an Army veteran, having served during World War II in the Pacific Theater. Doss retired from Virginia/Carolina Trucking Company and was previously employed with Dalton Thomas Texaco. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Wilma Iris Hardison Doss of the home; three daughters, Wanda D. Slaughter, Pamela D. Nuckles and Susan Doss, all of Martinsville; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Norris Funeral Services in Martinsville with Pastor Tom Durrance officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Martinsville. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the home. on January 7, 2013.2,3

The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Downtown Chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home. Burial to follow the service in Graceland West Cemetery. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 31, at Huff Funeral Home Chapel in East Bend, with the Rev. Danny Poole officiating. Burial will follow in the East Bend Friends Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening, July 30, at Huff Funeral Home in East Bend.
