     Frederick Lawrence Calain BRIDGEPORT — Mr. Frederick L. Calain, 88 years of age, of Bridgeport, WV, passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2010, at the United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, WV. He was born April 17, 1922, in Randolph County, WV, the son of the late Elmer and Jeanette Tingler Calain. He is survived by his wife, Maxine Sturm Calain. They had celebrated sixty-nine years of marriage. He is also survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Fay and Wayne Jamison of Bridgeport and Pam and Bill Skotnicki of Ripley, WV. Fred was very proud of his service to his country. He was in the Army during World War II and had special training in explosive demolition. During that time, he served three years as an infantry man in France, Holland, Belgium and Germany. He received the Bronze Star; Combat Infantry Badge and other medals. He also served a year in the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Clarksburg Publishing Company with 30 years of service. He was past secretary/treasurer of the Clarksburg Typographical Union for several years. From 1994-1999, he served as President on the Board of Directors at the Clarksburg Mission and also performed volunteer work. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Bi-County Nutrition Center. He was a Life member of Clarksburg Chapter No. 573 of the VFW and a Life member of the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship. He was an active member of the Bridgeport United Methodist Church until his health declined. A funeral service will be celebrated on Monday, August 23, 2010, at the West Virginia National Cemetery, Pruntytown, WV, at 11 a.m. with Reverend Steven E. Dorsey presiding. He retired from Montgomery Ward Company in Wheaton, MD in 1971. He enjoyed playing music, fishing, building and gardening and helping people with projects. At his request, he will be cremated and laid to rest with his beloved wife. A private service will be held in the near future. on March 16, 2016.4

Surviving are a daughter, Tammy Hagstad of Macon; three sons, Lonnie of Orange Park, Fla; David of Walkill, N.Y; and Melvin of St. Petersburg, Fla; two sisters, Anna Mary Moser and Mildred, both of Greencastle; a brother, Blaine of Greencastle; and several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter in 1994, two sisters and a brother. on June 23, 2000.1
