     Bryant Eugene "Sonny" Duncan Bryant E. Duncan, 87, of Salem, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2019. He was born in New Castle, a son of the late Esse and Ida Duncan and had been an area resident all of his life. A devout Christian man, he proudly served his country during the Korean War in U.S. Marine Corps. He was employed for many years as a machinist at General Electric before retiring, held a deep passion for hunting and fishing and was an avid Civil War historian. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard S. Duncan and wife Frances, a step-daughter, Tammy Salmon, his former spouse, Shirley June Duncan, and a brother-in-law, Deal Lipes. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Joyce Spangler Duncan; step-son, Dewey Spangler, Jr; sister, Kernell Lipes; two grandchildren, Jacob and Ben Salmon; nieces, Daphne McDaniel and husband Sonny, Cindy Johnson and husband Calvin, Barbara Lipes and Winnie Walters; nephews, Richard and Wayne Duncan; son-in-law, Michael Salmon. Funeral services will be held at 2PM, Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son, Salem. A pastor’s wife, Flo served faithfully along side the love of her life, Chips, for 40 years. Flo had a servant’s heart and made everyone feel they were the most important person in the world. She used her works and words to build and grow hope in others. She had an angel’s voice and loved music, Heaven’s choir is sweeter today and we know she is full of joy.
