Turner, on December 30, 1955 at St. Albans, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.1,2,3,4 Joseph Lee "Joe" Hardin died on March 28, 2019 at South Charleston, Kanawha Co., West Virginia, at age 86.3 He Joseph L. "Joe" Hardin, 86, of St. Albans, passed away March 28, 2019, at the Hubbard Hospice House-West. He was born June 1932 in St. Albans, the son of Troy Clayton and Mabel Melcenia Hardin. Joe graduated from St. Albans High in 1950. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy, in charge of communication aboard the USS Mount Olympus during the Korean conflict. Joe was an instructor at U.S. Naval Reserve Training Center in South Charleston. After his tour, he returned home to marry his sweetheart, Vashti Poff, where they settle in St. Albans. They celebrated their 63 years of marriage in December. He was an active member of Saint Peters United Methodist Church where he held several positions as Building Security Committee, Early Bird Committee, Trustee Committee, Finance Committee, Usher, Lawn Committee, Committee on Lay Leadership and Administrative Board. Joe was a building engineer manager for the Bell Atlantic Telephone until retirement. He was a Charter member, Mountaineer Chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers. Joseph's family was blessed to have him in their lives. He was an honorable and kind gentleman and people enjoyed being around him. He dearly loved his wife, his children, his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and truly delighted spending time with them. In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by a brother, Bill; sisters, Margaret and Audrey. Left to cherish his memory is the love of his life, his wife Vashti; sons, Coleman Hardin and wife Sandy of Red house, Les Hardin and wife Tricia of North Carolina, Kent Hardin and wife Vikki of St. Albans, Joel Hardin and wife Anita of Wheeling; sister, Jane Holly of South CHarleston; niece, Vicky Lilly and husband Bob of North Carolina; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his dog, Abby, and cat, Scooter. To our friends, family and church family, we thank you for your calls, cards, visits and food, but mostly your prayers. Joe was cremated and will be residing with his wife until time comes for a double memorial service. on April 9, 2019.3

Betty was a Kindergarten Teacher with St. Paul' s Episcopal Church for many years and also worked as a secretary at the Salem College Governors School during the summer. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Clayton Hardin, a son, William C. Hardin, II and a brother, Howard L. Poff. Surviving are a daughter; Victoria Lilly and husband, Bob of Rural Hall, a son, Timothy Hardin of Lakin, West Virginia, a grandson, Rob Lilly and wife, Karen of King, NC, two great grandsons, Brandon and Austin Lilly and a sister, Vashti Hardin and husband, Joseph of St. Albans, West Virginia. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The Funeral Service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 11, at the Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, officiated by Rev. Neil Shaw. Burial will follow in the Parklawn Memorial Park. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Village Care in King for the love and care given to Betty and her family. Memorials may be made to Hospice Palliative Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. on February 10, 2009.6

In addition to his wife, Howard is survived by his daughter, Cindy Shock and her husband, Kenny of Hurricane, WV; his grandchildren, Amber Higginbotham of Jacksonville, FL and Alex Higginbotham with the Unties States Marine Corps, currently stationed at Cherry Point, NC; his sisters, Betty Hardin of King, NC, Vashti Hardin and her husband, Joe of St. Albans, WV; one niece and six nephews. Service will be 11:00am Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, 409 Sixth Avenue, St. Albans, WV with Rev. James Reed officiating. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans, WV. on April 1, 2008.4

He had been employed for the past 37 years at Castle View Burial Park. Mr. Heckathorn was a veteran of World War I. He served 12 years in the U.S. Army. Surviving are his wife in New Castle; two daughters, Mrs. Jane Stewart and Mrs. Ethel Stewart, both of New Castle; a son, George of New Castle; a step-daughter, Mrs. Beverlyn (Ruby) Russell of Norfolk, Va; a sister, Mrs. Anna Wherry of New Wilmington; two brothers, George and Albert, both of New Castle; and 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sisler. The family will receive friends at the Robert A. Myers Home for Funerals, 208 N. Jefferson St. from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow. The service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Brig. William Bailey of the Salvation Army officiating. Interment will follow the service in Castle View Burial Park. on June 28, 1967.3
