Robert Wallace "Bob" Conner Sr. was buried at South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens, Petersburg, Grant Co., West Virginia.2,3 He Robert Wallace “Bob” Conner Sr., age 82, of Cabins, WV passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Grant Memorial Hospital. He was born August 7, 1931 in Matoaka, WV and was a son of the late Ray Conner and Fosie (Bailey) Conner Krondon. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Donna (Burkit) Conner, and his second wife, Delores J. “Dee” Conner. He retired from George Transfer and Rigging Company in Parkton, MD. He was a member of the Jordan Run Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army and was a life member of the Potomac Highlands VFW Post 6454. Bob was a member of Pleasant Valley Golf Club. He was a competitive, avid golfer, card player and sports enthusiast. He was known and loved in the community for his Christian Service and his love for children, many who are grown up now. He was also known as "Daddy Bob" to many, especially Brittany and Amy. He has helped with a bus ministry, puppets and has performed as a clown. He has participated in community plays, was a choir member and a former member of the Potomac Valley Men's Choir. Bob loved traveling and he had visited all the states, except Hawaii. Surviving his wife, Donna (Rumer) Riggleman- Conner; two sons, Robert W. Conner Jr. of PA and David R. Conner of Spring Grove, PA; four step sons, John Harness of Moundsville, WV, Rocky Riggleman of Maysville, WV, Ricky Riggleman of Cabins, WV and Jay Riggleman of Scherr, WV; two step daughters, Bonnie Barlow of New Market, VA and Nina Faye of Point Pleasant, sixteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; one sister, Janice Heath of Baltimore, MD and a special niece, Lisa Canter of Baltimore, MD. Family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Monday at 11 a.m. (June 30, 2014) at the Schaeffer Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Bergdoll and Rev Dr. James Ash officiating. Interment will be in the South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens, Petersburg, WV with military honors by the VFW Post 6454. The son of the late Robert and Mary Criner Thompson, he was also preceded in death by brothers, Andrew Thompson and John Thompson; and a sister, Evelyn Stafford. He was a beloved husband, a devoted and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jean Thompson; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Drema Thompson, Floyd; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Jim Phillips, Sherry and Tim Lanning, all of Roanoke; four grandchildren, Tracy Conner and husband, Derek, Travis Collins, Haley Lanning, and Jared Thompson; a great-grandchild, Ashlea Conner; a sister, Lois Crawford, Christiansburg; three brothers, Fred Thompson, Independence, Mo., Billy Thompson, Richmond, and Kenneth Thompson, Christiansburg; several nieces and nephews; special cousins, Billy and Dorothy Swain; and a host of friends. The family would like to express a special thanks to the nursing staff in the ICU at Roanoke Community Hospital. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, August 31, 2001, at the Horne Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Charles Ward. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. on August 30, 2001.4
