Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Anna Thompson; daughter and spouse, Leigh Ann and Mike Cressell; stepson, James Stuart; grandchild, Damien Cressell; sisters and spouse, Patty Broce and Connie T. and B. Clayton Goodman III; nieces, Lori Mallory and spouse, Eric, and Julie Goodman; nephews, Brian Broce and spouse, Melissa Simpkins, John Justin Broce and Andrew Goodman; great-nephews, Brandon Mallory and Joshua Simpkins; and great-niece, Danielle Broce. George McElroy Helms George McElroy Helms, 68, of East Washington, died Wednesday, April 5, 2006, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born December 13, 1937, in Richmond, Va., a son of Roy S. and Frances McElroy Helms. Mr. Helms graduated from Osbourn High School, Manassas, Va., in 1955. He served in the National Guard in California and Virginia, receiving an honorable discharge in 1957. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, receiving an honorable discharge in 1963. He was licensed in Virginia from 1960 to 1975 as an insurance agent, real estate agent and tax consultant. On June 4, 1976, he married Sharen Arnold, who survives. They would have celebrated 30 years of marriage. Mr. Helms and his wife established Blue Diamond Enterprises Inc. in 1979. After retiring in 2000, he enjoyed cultivating his talents, including his ability to create detailed woodwork, and landscaped and renovated his home. He joined Washington Lions Club in 1989 and served faithfully as president in 1998-99, receiving an International President Certificate of Appreciation. He was a Melvin Jones Fellow. Mr. Helms will be remembered for his sunny disposition, sense of humor and dedication. He was a cornea donor and bone and tissue donor for Center for Organ Recovery and Education, Pittsburgh. William Roger Greear was born on March 14, 1936 at Christiansburg, Montgomery Co., Virginia.2,3 He married Lockie Jo Nolen, daughter of Frank Raymond Nolen and Emily Blanche Whitenack, on March 15, 1958 at Chester Co., South Carolina.1,4,5 William Roger Greear died on November 15, 2022 at Riner, Montgomery Co., Virginia, at age 86.4 He William “Bill” Greear, 86, of Riner, passed away peacefully at home on November 15, 2022. Bill was a lifetime dairy and beef cattle farmer in Riner. He helped establish the Riner Volunteer Fire Department in 1957 and was a Charter Member. Bill obtained his Dairy Science degree in 1957 from Virginia Tech and was a longtime Farm Bureau member and Board of Director. He served in the Army Reserves from 1958-1965. He was also a member of Auburn United Methodist Church. Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lockie Jo Nolen Greear; and parents, Isaac Jacob and Bessie Edith (Richardson) Greear. He is survived by his children, Rebekah Saylors (Patrick), Scott Greear (Trina), and Darin Greear (Tabitha); grandchildren, Brooke Weber (Bobby), Katherine Meadows (Jacob), and Heather Greear; and great-grandchildren, Theodore Weber, Aria and Gabe Saligan. He will be missed by his sister, Martha Akers; niece, Laura Via (Steve); great-nephew, Michael Via; and his goddaughter, Becki Bain (Eddie). Special thanks to Becki and Eddie Bain for the absolute BEST care and support anyone could hope for! Also special thanks goes to longtime friends and neighbors, Norman, Marlene, and Brian Burton. The family would like to thank special lifesaving friend and neighbor Kelly Burton and family as well as his lifesaving faithful companion, Rascal.
