Via fell headfirst in an open field. The body was buried two feet in the ground. Via, who was employed by Oscar Ruth of Indianapolis, struggled to cut the last cord to open the float. The parachute opened after he struck the ground. In his jump on Friday and ad yesterday Via had the same difficulty with the third float, but managed to cut the cord successfully.
