     Evelyn Virginia Turner was buried at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, 5737 Airport Road NW, Roanoke, Virginia.3 She Evelyn Virginia "Nancy" Tingler, 92, of Roanoke, Va., went to her eternal home to be with Jesus and family on Friday, July 19, 2024. Born in Roanoke on March 17, 1932, to the late Samuel D. and Draxie L. Turner. She lived a long life of service to her family and others with her loving care. Evelyn was a graduate of Andrew Lewis High School and remained active in class reunions for years. She grew up in the Starkey Road area where she was the leader of "The Birthday Girls" lunch group which was made up of life-long friends and neighbors who grew up in that area. Evelyn had worked at several places over the years including National Nabisco Company, Sears Roebuck, United Health, AARP and S.H. Heironimus Company before retiring in 1991. She is a member of the New Hope Christian Church but grew up in the Piney Grove Christian Church where she worshiped, sung in the choir and was active as a youth in the Christian Endeavor and accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior as a teenager. Evelyn had been married to Jimmy Martin Tingler for seventy years and together raised two successful children, Jaime and Tim. Jaime and Tim Barnett gave her two grandsons, Charlie and Sam who knew her as "Maw". She held a special place in her heart for them and was always involved in their lives and activities. Her mother's love was extended to a family member, Barry Wade who became a second son. She enjoyed watching tennis which she had played in her younger years and was an avid reader. She was an excellent homemaker and gifted with a talent of decorating. Her home was always lovely and welcoming, enhanced with plants and flowers that she enjoyed taking care of. Evelyn liked travelling with her husband and family, whether touring the county, cruising to Hawaii, trips to the mountains or beach and looked forward to trips with her sisters to shop and spend quality time together. Many summer days were spent at Smith Mountain Lake working to build and then enjoy the beauty of "Laguna Rock", boating and entertaining family, friends and many special neighbors though out many years. She will be missed, and her memory will be cherished by many. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, David Turner (Margaret); sisters, Audrey Short (Cecil), Hazel LaPrade (Clarence), Ann Dennis (Curtis), Jean Crowder (Thurman), sister, Jacqueline Smith (Jerry); mother-in-law, Vannie Tingler whom she loved as her second mother; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clarence Tingler, Jr. (Emily), Rex Tingler, Bernice Friar (Rudy), Becky Tingler, Jim Littleton; and special friend, Richard Harless. Survivors include her loving husband, Jimmy Martin Tingler; daughter, Jaime T. Barnett (Tim); son, Timothy Martin Tingler; second son, Barry Wade; grandsons, Charles Martin Barnett (Jamie), Samuel Lee Barnett (Annie); sisters, Mary Jane Weeks, Marlene Leech; sister-in-law, Roena Littleton; brother-in-law, Jerry Tingler; special friend and "sister", Judy Harless (who called Evelyn, "Hank"); and many nieces and nephews with whom she had a loving relationship. Rebecca Poling Tingler, 75, passed away on Saturday evening November 21, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents, John W. and Virginia Akers Poling; brother, John W. Poling Jr; and nephew, Paul S. Poling. Born in Detroit, Michigan on February 20, 1945, she moved to the Roanoke area at the age of two. She was a graduate of Bluefield College and Georgetown University (Ky.) She was an elementary music teacher in Botetourt County schools. Becky was a choir director and youth minister at several churches in the Roanoke Valley. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Jerry W. Tingler; her son, David A. Tingler (Margot); grandchildren, Gavin and Claire Tingler; sister-in-law, Sue Poling; nephew, John W. Poling III; brother-in law, Jimmy Tingler (Nancy); sister-in-law, Roena Tingler Littleton; dear friends, Marisol Scott, Sebastian Betancourt, and Wayne and Pat McGuire.
