John F. McManigle was born on August 2, 1925 at Emporium, Cameron Co., Pennsylvania.1 He married Doris Pollard, daughter of Merl Raymond Pollard and Mary Zelasko, on April 1, 1950 at Emporium, Cameron Co., Pennsylvania.1 John F. McManigle died on July 19, 2015 at DuBois, Clearfield Co., Pennsylvania, at age 89.1 He EMPORIUM - John F. "Mickey" McManigle, 89, of 166 West Fourth St., Emporium, died at Penn Highlands DuBois, on Sunday night (July 19, 2015) following a brief illness. Mickey was born Aug. 9, 1925, at the family home on West 6th Street in Emporium. He was the second of eight children of the late John F. and Mariam Cooper McManigle. He was a lifelong Emporium resident who cherished his family and friends. In 1945, he met Doris Pollard, a young waitress at the Cabin Kitchen. Doris became the love of his life, and on April 1, 1950 they were married in the First Presbyterian Church, Emporium. They often joked that they married on April Fool's Day ... just in case. They celebrated their 58th anniversary prior to her passing in 2008. Mickey graduated from Emporium High School in 1943. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mickey worked at Sylvania for more than 42 years as a journeyman (master) tool and die maker. He took great pride in building machines used in the production of picture tubes and other Sylvania products during the height of Sylvania's popularity. He worked as manager and president at the Emporium Water Co. One of his proudest achievements was overseeing the design and construction of the filtration plant. For more than 25 years he also served as the president of Cameron Land Development. Mickey and Doris were charter members of the Emporium Country Club. Mickey was proud of Doris's achievements, including 19 Club Championships, and was always eager to regale family and friends with the story of his own "march" to the 1965 Fourth Flight Championship. Mickey and Doris were winter residents of Cape Canaveral, Fla., for more than 25 years. They lived in the Villages of Seaport, where they became lifelong friends with fellow "snow birds" from around the United States and Canada. Mickey and Doris often shared how significantly these relationships enriched their lives. Mickey particularly enjoyed the daily three-mile walk around the jetty and evening "happy hour" with friends. In addition, Mickey was an ardent supporter of Cocoa Beach high school basketball, highlighted by traveling to a Cocoa playoff game on the team charter. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Emporium, where he served as trustee, deacon and financial secretary. He was also an active member of the Cape Canaveral Christ Lutheran Church for more than 20 years. Mickey was a life member of the American Legion Olkosky-Jessop Post 194, a 50-year member of the Emporium Lodge #382, F&AM and the Coudersport Consistory, as well as a member of the Loyal Order Of Moose Lodge #368. Mickey was an avid outdoorsman and member of the Bucktail Rod & Gun Club. He was also a member of the Cameron County Historical Society. He was a co-founder of the Emporium HOOP Club in Emporium, where he served the organization as officer in many capacities. Years ago, he was a Little League baseball manager and Boy Scouts of America Troop 52 Committeeman. Surviving are a son, Dr. John E. (Eleanor) McManigle of Rockville, Md; a daughter, Ms. Jo Ann Crosby of Lewistown; a very special friend, Sharon DeCarli of Emporium; four grandchildren, Jessica Lynn of Lewistown, Dr. John Edward Jr., Dr. William Cameron and Lorne Elizabeth of Durham, N.C; two great-granddaughters, Danika and Ireland of Lewistown; five sisters, Jean Dunkleberger of Emporium, Virginia (Larry) Pope of Lawrenceville, Ga., Phyllis Sullivan and Maxine George, both of Emporium, and Judy Mongillo of Bradford; a sister-in-law, Sarah (Hathaway) McManigle of Emporium; and many nieces and nephews.
