Donna Marie Fadgen (nee Nielsen), age 93, of Minneapolis, formerly of Huron, South Dakota, passed away April 1, 2021. She is preceded in death by parents Peter Martin Nielsen and Mathilda Nielsen (nee Hendrickson), husband of 66 years Richard (Dick) Fadgen, and sister Ruth Klein. She will be missed by children Nancy Stanforth, Pamela (Kevin) Johnson, and Rick (Pat) Fadgen; grandchildren Anne Nonnemacher (Louis Brown), Melissa Nonnemacher (Brian Uhlhorn), Joseph Fadgen, and Daniel Fadgen; and by great-grandchildren Gwendolyn Uhlhorn and Elliot Brown. Donna and Dick farmed in Flandreau, SD and then moved to Huron, SD where Dick was a county extension agent. In 2009 they moved to Minneapolis to be close to family. Donna was an expert seamstress, quilter, and embroiderer. She was also an avid reader and active volunteer. Over the years she was active with the Sons of Norway, Extension Club, Meals on Wheels, and tutoring adults to read.2 She was born on July 19, 1927.2 As of September 12, 1947,her married name was Fadgen.1 She married Richard Duree Fadgen, son of Richard John Varcoe Fadgen and Nellie May Duree, on September 12, 1947 at Brookings Co., South Dakota.1,2 Donna Marie Nielsen died on April 1, 2021 at Minneapolis, Hennepin Co., Minnesota, at age 93.2

Rahn Flandreau - Kenneth W. Rahn, 93, of Flandreau, SD passed away peacefully the early morning of Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Riverview Healthcare Center in Flandreau. (Not COVID related). Kenneth was born May 10, 1927 at Flandreau, SD to Byron M. and Mary L. (Warrell) Rahn. He lived his entire life in Flandreau save a short time in Denver while completing his degree at Denver University. Ken graduated from Flandreau High School in 1945 but missed his graduation ceremony because he was traveling to join the Merchant Marines. He traveled the world on the Liberty Ships SS Stratton and SS Fisher Ames to locations that included the Philippines and the Black Sea Region. He was drafted the first time on September 25, 1946 and became a part of the occupation army in Japan. He was drafted the second time on the same date four years later - September 25, 1950. Before shipping out, Kenneth married his love Elizabeth Fadgen on November 18, 1950 in a double ceremony with his best friend and new sister-in-law. A few weeks later Ken was on his way to Korea. The following May, Ken lost his leg in battle but that loss never really hindered him in life or curbed his enthusiasm. Ken and Betty were true Flandreau residents. One of Ken's proudest accomplishments was the preparation and construction of the Flier Booster Stadium as Booster president. During his lifetime, Ken served as president of Kiwanis; treasurer of Flandreau Improvement Corporation; chairman of the hospital board, the library board and Moody County Republicans; past trustee and longest member of the United Methodist Church; past commander and quartermaster of VFW; American Legion; Masonic Lodge; Eastern Star; DAV and NRA. He worked as an independent insurance agent with an office next to the Crystal Theatre for over 40 years. Kenneth was a man of integrity, generosity, honor, and ultimately a man of his word. You could count on him in any circumstance. He supported his family, his friends, and his community always. Kenneth is survived by 3 children: Kenneth R. (Karen) Rahn, Madison, SD; Janis Rahn Sax, Bennett, CO; Darcy (Billy) Kennedy, Strasburg, CO; 6 grandchildren: Kenneth G., Sioux Falls; Sarah, Sioux Falls; Tiffany (Kevin), Thornton, CO; Hannah (Steven), Englewood, CO; Seth, Centennial, CO; Allison, Aurora, CO; 5 great-grandchildren: Trinity, Charlize, Grace, Isla, Mila; his sister Doris Solem; his brother-in-law Marvin Bothel; and several beloved nieces and nephews. Kenneth was preceded in death by his loving wife Elizabeth (November 20, 2010), a daughter Mary Nell, sister-in-law D. Frances Bothel, brother-in-law Stanley Solem, son-in-law Carl Sax, and his parents. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Thursday, December 17, 2020 at the United Methodist Church, Flandreau, with burial in Union Cemetery, Flandreau. on December 12, 2020.4 He died on December 12, 2020 at Flandreau, Moody Co., South Dakota, at age 93.4

Carl Holz Sax was buried at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 South Sheridan Blvd., Denver, Denver Co., Colorado.3 He Carl Holtz Sax, passed away peacefully at his home on June 14, 2018. Born October 7, 1968 to Rosemarie (Hrvatin) and George Sax, Carl was raised in the Denver area and attended Green Mountain High School. Carl entered the US Army on October 11, 1988. He was stationed at Fort Drum, NY and was in the 10th Mountain Division. He served in many different theaters including Somalia, Haiti, Panama and Desert Storm and achieved the rank of Sergeant. Carl's life and direction was defined by his military service. He considered it an honor to have served his country. The strong bond he felt with his fellow soldiers helped him through some of the most difficult times of his life. As a kennel owner and professional dog trainer, animals always came first. Carl was fiercely dedicated to his four-footed charges. In training dogs, he often said that the most valuable tool was six inches of duct tape for all the humans. He was an expert gundog trainer and NSTRA competitor with innumerable awards in field trial competitions. It was 2004 when during League Trap Shooting at Golden Gun Club that Carl met Janis Rahn and on June 12, 2005 they were married at Kiowa Creek Gun Club. Carl is survived by his wife, Janis; his mother, Rosemarie Kelley; his sister, Sonja Sax; a step-brother, Jeffrey; and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Carl was preceded in death by his father, George; his step-brothers Kenny, Larry, and Arnie; and his step-father Dr. Robert Kelley. There will be a memorial service for Carl on Monday, June 25 at 11:00 am at Bullock Funeral Home at 1375 E. Hampden Avenue, Englewood followed by military honors at Fort Logan at 12:30pm.3 He was born on October 7, 1968 at Colorado.3 He married Janis Rahn, daughter of Kenneth W. Rahn and Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Fadgen, on June 12, 2005 at Bennett, Colorado.1,2,3 Carl Holz Sax died on June 14, 2018 at Colorado at age 49.3
