Mr. Slack died in a Charleston hospital after a long illness. A retired 35-year employe of Elk Refining Co. at Falling Rock, he was a member of the AFL-CIO. Surviving are his wife Eva; a son, John W. Slack at home; eight daughters; Mrs. Ruth Harkins, Mrs. Tida Hays and Mrs. Eva Mullins of Rt. 1 Elkview, Mrs. Mae Givens of Rt. 2 Charleston, Mrs. Orpha Shafer of Arlington, Va., Mrs. Alta Myers of White Sulphur Springs, Mrs. Nina Furry of Falling Rock and Miss Opal Slack at home; 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. on January 28, 1962.5

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Luther "Jug" Slack; children, Larry Slack and infant son, Henry Slack; grandson, Robbie Slack; great-granddaughter, Christina Slack; and brothers, Junior, Joe and Daris Moles and infant brothers, Henry, Harry and Charles. Surviving are daughter, Sue Facemyer and husband, Eugene, of Elkview; sons, Mark Slack and wife, Patty, of Elkview, Ray Slack and wife, Darlene of Scott Depot; grandchildren, Shannon Slack, Scott Slack, Beth Slack, Eric Slack and Brandi Carte; great-grandchildren, Monica O'Hearn, Kaela Slack, Jacob Carte and Michael Scott Mathers; sisters, Kathleen Mitchell, Beulah Coffey, Welda Jordan and Pearl Haas. She was a dedicated member of the Blue Creek Advent Christian Church and the Ladies Circle and she loved quilting, gardening, crossword puzzles, watching NASCAR racing and football games. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the Hafer Funeral Home Chapel with the Pastor Ted Tawney officiating. Burial will follow in the Sheets Cemetery, at Frame. on February 5, 2008.2

She was the Co-owner of Goodnight Pillowcases which brought her much pride and joy of owning a business with her grandson, Michael. She is survived by her son, Larry S. (Kathy) Slack of Clendenin; Daughter, Beth Slack of Galli., Oh; Brother, Tommy Rucker of Buckhannon; Sister, Terry June (Roger) Lemarier of Elkview, Brother-in-laws, Mark (Patty) Slack and Ray (Darlene) Slack of Elkview, Sister-in-law, Sue (Eugene) of Elkview, and grandson Michael Mather of Clendenin. Tamara is preceded in death by her husband, Larry N. Slack and granddaughter, Christina N. Slack. Service will be 11:00 am Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015 at the Hafer Funeral Home with Jerry Chandler officiating. Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 9, 2015 from 6pm to 8pm. Mark Edward Slack was born on July 22, 1951 at Blue Creek, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.1 He married Patricia Ann Jones circa 1971.1 Mark Edward Slack died on September 1, 2019 at West Virginia at age 68.1 He Mark Edward Slack, 68, of Elkview, passed from this life on to his heavenly home on Sunday, September 1, 2019, surrounded by his family. Mark was born at home in Blue Creek on July 22, 1951, the youngest son of Luther P. and Madeline (Moles) Slack. He was a graduate of the 1969 class of Herbert Hoover High School and was so happy he was able to attend his 50-year class reunion in August. He worked for the C&P Telephone Company and the Bell Atlantic for over 30 years before retiring at the age of 49. He was an avid turkey and deer hunter and also loved to fish. Mark never met a stranger. He really enjoyed getting together with his friends for lunch or listening to music on Friday night at the Elkview Community Center. He especially liked listening to Joe sing. He also loved to bowl and was President of his League at Venture Lanes for over 35 years. He was a master craftsman and was proud to have not only built his own home over 40 years ago but also help Eric and Lora build theirs. He always said he was a "Jack of all Trades, but the Master of None." He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Robert William "Robbie" Slack; parents, Luther and Madeline Slack; brother and his wife, Larry and Tamara Slack; infant brother, Henry; and great-niece, Christina Slack. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Patricia Ann (Jones) Slack; devoted son, Eric W. Slack and wife Lora, who he considered a daughter; brother, Ray (Darlene); sister, Sue Facemyer (Eugene); host of extended family and friends and "adopted" sons, Scott Slack and Greg Taylor. To each one who prayed for him, came to visit, called to check on him or brought food, we thank you. You made him feel so loved. There will be no services at this time. on September 5, 2019.1
