     Ruie Estella Smith was buried at Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.¹ Her married name was Elmore. She married Tommy Vernon Elmore, son of John Dennis "Johnnie" Elmore and Marjorie Lucille "Margie" Burns.¹ Ruie Estella Smith was born on April 13, 1950 at West Virginia.² She died on January 16, 2001 at Charleston, Kanawha Co., West Virginia, at age 50.¹ She Ruie Estella Elmore, 50, of Charleston, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, in CAMC Memorial Hospital, following a short illness. She was a food attendant with Shoney's restaurant. Surviving: mother, Sylvia Smith of Ohley; daughters, Cindy Elmore, Angela Elmore and Kasey Campsey of Charleston, Christine Rader of Hawaii; son, Thomas Elmore of Cabin Creek; brothers, Phillip Smith and Weed Smith of Ohley; sisters, Sherry Barnardis of Scott Depot, Helena Skaggs and Betty Provinces of Ohley, Darlene Bowels of Eskdale; seven grandchildren. Funeral service will be noon Friday at Rhonda Apostolic Church, Rhonda with Dale Pitsenbarger and Dick Maynard officiating. Burial will be in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow. on January 18, 2001.¹

She was the mother of Jeremy Pettry and Matt and C.J. Martin. Also surviving are a brother, Thomas Elmore, and two sisters, Christine Rader and Cindy Elmore. Her body has been cremated. Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, at Rhonda Apostolic Church. on February 22, 2007.²

     Gerald Ward Via It is with much sadness that we announce that Gerald Ward Via, of Roanoke, VA passed away Tuesday, April 6th, 2021. Gerald graduated from Floyd County High School and National Business College. Gerald leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Vicky Walters Via, his daughter, Melissa Via Johnson, and three grandchildren, Ashleigh, Emma, and Eli of Fincastle. He is also survived by his parents, Theodore and Louise Compton Via of Floyd, VA. A brother, Mark (Karen) Via of Floyd, and a sister, Sarah (Michael) Browning of Copper Hill, Va. His nephews, Ryan (Sarah) Browning of Daleville, VA, and Matthew (Stephanie) Browning of Troutville, Va. His nieces, Trisha (Chris) Heidt of Floyd, Va, Angela (Mike) Myers of Floyd, Patricia Moore of Roanoke, VA, and Laura Lee (Brandon) Allen of Floyd, Va. Several great-nieces and nephews. In-laws, John and Bonnie Dunn of Roanoke, Va. Sister-in-law, Cathy (Wendell) Sowers of Christiansburg. Gerald was the past president of the Jubal Early Preservation Trust, Secretary, and Treasurer of the Fincastle Rifles, past Vice-President of the Floyd County Historical Society, past member of the Floyd County Preservation Trust, and Hanging Rock in Salem. Gerald loved being with all his family. He enjoyed people and telling them a story. The center of his universe, he always said was The Saddle overlook on the parkway. He loved to go listen to his friends play bluegrass music. Gerald will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Interment will follow at the Lee Cemetery, Tuggles Gap.³ He was buried at Lee Cemetery, Rt. 8, Tuggles Gap, Floyd Co., Virginia.³ He was born on August 3, 1954 at Patrick Co., Virginia.^1,2 He married Vicky Lynn Walters, daughter of Dean Moyer "Deanie" Walters and Margaret Blondine "Bonnie" Sink, on November 21, 1975 at Floyd Co., Virginia.^1,3 Gerald Ward Via died on April 6, 2021 at Virginia at age 66.³
