Albert Whitacre was buried at Burnside Cemetery, Chillicothe, Livingston Co., Missouri.4,3 He was born on August 16, 1853 at Iowa.1,3 He married Savannah/Savanah Parton/Parker on July 7, 1874 at Randolph Co., Arkansas.5 Albert Whitacre married Paulina Ellen Christenson on October 20, 1886 at Chillicothe, Livingston Co., Missouri.2 Albert Whitacre married Eliza Simmons on October 31, 1888 at Chillicothe, Livingston Co., Missouri.2,4 Albert Whitacre died on September 4, 1905 at Brush, Morgan Co., Colorado, at age 52.4,3 He REAR-END COLLISION IN BRUSH YARDS 3 KILLED AND 27 INJURED - Last Monday night, when most of the people of Brush were in bed, a great catastrophe took place within our limits that will go down in history as one of the largest train wrecks between Denver and Omaha. During the past week the Burlington had been overtaxed with passenger traffic on account of the G.A.R. Encampment at Denver, and had been running as high as ten sections of one train. About eleven o'clock Monday night section four of No. 13 had reached Brush, double headed and stopped at the west tank for water, rear end of train standing about even with the mail crane south of the coal chutes. Freight No. 77 loaded with 1300 tons and pulled by No. 1940 came rolling down the hill east of Brush, at a terrific speed, and as the No. 13 is not scheduled to stop here, the engineer did not expect to find a passenger in the yards. As the rear of the passenger was hid behind the coal chutes, the freight engineer did not see it until he reached the straight track which begins at the switch just east of the chutes. He immediately reversed his engine and applied the emergency brakes, but it was of no use, as the train had gained such momentum that the brakes offered little resistance and the flying train slid along plunging into the rear of the passenger train with a crash that told all who were awake and heard it, that something awful had happened. As fast as possible the dead and injured were taken from the ruins and tranferred to the depot waiting room and the Commercial Hotel, where Burlington Surgeon Turner with all the doctors from Akron, Fort Morgan, and Brush worked heroically to save life and relieve suffering. A. Whitacre of Chillicothe, Missouri, who had just gotten into his berth in the tourist sleeper, was covered with the wreckage. He received internal injuries and only lived a few minutes after taken from the ruins. on September 8, 1905.6 He The funeral services over the remains of Al Whitacre, who was killed in the wreck of the Burlington excursion train that left here Sunday night, at Brush, Col., Monday night, were conducted from the home place, south of chillicothe, at two o'clock Friday afternoon. A large crowd of friends from this city and the immediate neighborhood of Whitacre places attended the obsequies. Burial was made in the Burnside cemetery, eight miles southeast of Chillicothe. Mr Whitacre's wife is at death's door as the result of the shock accompanying the sudden announcement of her husband's death. The first lutlmation(?) she received that he was otherise than in the midst of a pleasant excursion was a telephone message sent from this city immediately after a telegram reached Frank Way, informing him of Whitacre's death. Mrs. Whitacre is of a rather nervous temperament and the news prostrated her. Friday morning she was reported resting easy. Mr. Whitacre was married three times. The maiden name of his last wife was Simmons. She is well known throughout the south part of the county. His three grown children are Albert and Tom Whitacre and Mrs Alice Gunby (should be Gumbert) of St. Joseph, who accompanied the remains to this city Thursday afternoon, joining the funeral party at St. Joseph. on September 14, 1905.4
