     Richard Donald "Don" Anderson Richard Donald (Don) Anderson, 83, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Friday, July 5, 2019. He retired from General Electric after 40 years of service. Don was a member of the Elks Lodge. He loved to play golf, poker and watch NASCAR. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Hobson and Lula Anderson; and sister, Phyllis Jean Rakes. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Sue Anderson; brother and sister-in-law, Ralph Wayne and Linda J. Anderson; and nephews, Ralph Wayne Anderson II and his wife, Angela, and their family, Mike Rakes, Richard Rakes and their families. A Graveside Service will be held at Sherwood Memorial Park.⁵ He was buried at Sherwood Burial Park, 1045 Lynchburg Turnpike, Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.^5,7 He was born on June 7, 1936 at Roanoke, Virginia.^2,3,4,7 He married Gloria Marie Haring on July 6, 1984 at Roanoke, Virginia.² Richard Donald "Don" Anderson and Gloria Marie Haring were divorced on April 18, 1985 at Roanoke, Virginia.⁴ Richard Donald "Don" Anderson married Lawanda Sue Vess on March 29, 1994 at Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.² Richard Donald "Don" Anderson died on July 5, 2019 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 83.^5,7

     Phyllis Jean Anderson was buried at Franklin Memorial Park, Virgil Goode Highway, Rocky Mount, Franklin Co., Virginia.^7,4 Her Social Security Number was 228-48-8874.³ She was born on September 18, 1939 at Roanoke, Virginia; Her gravestone has a birth date of Sep 8, 1939.^2,3,8,7 As of circa 1961,her married name was Rakes.⁴ She married Charles Nelson Rakes circa 1961.^1,4 Phyllis Jean Anderson died on January 22, 2005 at Franklin Co., Virginia, at age 65.^7,3,4,9 She Phyllis Jean Rakes, 65, of Rocky Mount, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 22, 2005. She attended Penn Forest Church of God, and was a very faithful servant to God. She was also a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, H.B. "Hop" and Etta Williams Anderson. Surviving are her husband of 44 years, Charles N. Rakes; her sons and Steven M. "Mike" Rakes of Rocky Mount, and Richard C. and Kellie J. Rakes of Roanoke; her granddaughters, Brooke and Bethany Rakes; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard D. and Sue Anderson, and Ralph W. and Linda Anderson, all of Roanoke; special friends, Diane Hale of Rocky Mount and Carolyn Epperly of Roanoke; a host of other loving family members and friends. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. on January 24, 2005.⁴

     Charles Nelson Rakes Charles Nelson Rakes, Dec 24, 1933 - Aug 31, 2024. Charles Nelson Rakes, age 90 of Rocky Mount died Saturday, August 31, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Elizabeth Rakes; his wife of 46 years, Jean Rakes; and siblings, Paul Rakes, Zellar Rakes, Ruby Rakes and Gladys Hankins. Surviving are his sons, Mike Rakes and Richard Rakes (Lorrie); his granddaughters, Brooke Rakes and Bethany Rakes; along with many loving nieces and nephews. Charles was a Sergeant in the United States Army serving during the Korean War. He was also a contractor in the construction industry and enjoyed NASCAR, westerns and classic cars.
