Bunting, 73, well-known and longtime Algona resident, died unexpectedley early Tuesday morning at Park Memorial Hospital in Mason City where he had been a patient since Monday. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ernest Allen officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, the Geilenfeld-Schaaf-McCullough Funeral Service in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers are Larry Sowers, Eldon Winkel, Earl Zeigler, Richard Lallier, E.L. Garbett and Louis G. Lenz. Honorary pallbearers are Harvey Johnson, Ernest Forlie, Arthur A. Olsen, A. J. Eischeid, and Grady Phillips. Francis Alvin Bunting was born Nov. 24, 1902 at Corning, Ia. He came to Algona in 1934 and was employed as a railway mail clerk. He retired in January of 1960 after 35 years of government service. He was married to Joesphine Kiecker at Fairmont, Minn. Jan. 15, 1962. Mr. Bunting served on the Algona Park Board for many years and started the Rose Garden at the corner of North and Harlnn streets, as well as at the Athletic Park in east Algona. He enjoyed gardening and was also a greenskeeper at the Algona Country Club for some time. He was an active member and past Governor of the Moose Lodge and served as secretary of the Algona chapter twelve years. He was also a member of Prudence Lodge 205 and Abu Bekr Temple at Sioux City. Mr. Bunting is survived by his wife, Josephine, and one daughter, Frances, Mrs. Gene Farrell of Easton, Mo. One son, David, died in 1959. Two brothers also survive; Hugh Bunting in California and Lawrence, Eugene, Ore. His son, parents, a brother and sister are deceased. Special Moose services were to be held at the chapel of the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and Masonic rites will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday. on February 19, 1976.6

Also surviving are two sons-in-law, nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Rob Bothell of Corning and Mrs. Leslie Coulter of Brooks, one brother, Chester Johnston of Creston and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Otto Johnston of Corning and a brother-in-law, Leslie Coulter of Brooks, plus a host of friends and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Otto and Milo, and one great grandson. She was a member of the Mercer Center Methodist church where she served faithfully. To seek the Lord's help, her Bible was her guide. Doing things for her family and friends, always came first in her life. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. To know her was to love her. Funeral services were held at the Mercer Center Church on May 17, 1971, at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. William Fry, and assisted by Rev. John C. Turner. Internment was at Lenox, Iowa. Music was provided by Mrs Bert Peckham and Mrs. Doyle Tranbarger. Pallbearers were Lee Brokaw, George Schafroth, Ivan Bissel, Harold Riley, Verne Scott and Lloyd Duncan. Flower bearers were Mrs. Lee Brokaw, Mrs. Donald Bovaird and Mrs Verna Scott. on May 27, 1971.2

     Vera Lucille Bunting Vera Lucille Bunting, the daughter of Raymond and Eva Jackson [Johnston] Bunting, was born June 23, 1916, in Adams County, Iowa, and passed away unexpectedly May 30, 1976 at Rosary Hospital in Corning at the age of 59 years, 11 months and 7 days. She was married to Carl Bovaird in the home of her parents on July 13, 1941. This union was blessed with three children, Mrs. Thomas (Doloris) Wood of Bremerton, Washington, Dean Bovaird of Corning and Marlene Bovaird of Creston. Her entire married life was spent in Adams Co. She is survived by her husband, Carl, her three children, Doloris and husband Thomas Wood, Dean and wife Diane, and Marlene, and four grandchildren, Melissa, Michael and Daniel Wood and Joel Bovaird. Also surviving are two sisters, Merle Burkhalter and husband Arthur of Creston and Mary Bunting of Phoenix, Arizona; one brother, Wayne Bunting of Corning; and mother-in-law, Ethel Bovaird of Prescott, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Donald and LaVerne Bovaird of Prescott, nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, father-in-law, one grandson and one granddaughter. She was a lifetime member of the Mercer Center United Methodist Church where she served as superintendent and teacher in the Children's department most of her adult life. She was active in the U.M.W. and has served on the sewing committee. She loved to sew and spent many hours making clothing, quilting and fancy work. Before her marriage she taught school in Carl and Mercer townships. Her enjoyment was working with her own and other children. Her greatest pleasure was her grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 2nd at 2:00 p.m. from the Mercer Center Methodist Church with Rev Floyd Newbrough officiating. Music was furnished by Joyce Brown, pianist; Marilyn Beck, vocalist and Helen Brokaw, vocalist. Casket bearers were Harvey Riley, Harold Riley, Donald Bovaird, Dale Burkhalter, Leon Burkhalter and Earl Burkhalter. Those in charge of the flowers were Karen Bovaird and Joan Mosby. Carl was a lifetime member of the Mercer Center United Methodist Church where he had served as Sunday school superintendent, teacher and member of the board until his health failed. His greatest pleasure was being with his family and working on the farm. Services were held at 10 a. m. July 12 at the Mercer Center United Methodist Church with Reverend W. C. Trembly and Reverend Floyd Newbrough of Huxley officiating. Marilyn Beck and Billie Jean Barker sang “In The Garden” and “Beyond The Sunset” accompanied by Norma Paymal at the organ. Casket bearers were Dale Burkhalter, Loren Burkhalter, Earl Burkhalter, Elvin Riley, Ron Saltzman and Paul Edwards. Interment was in the North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. The Larkin-Bender Funeral Home of Lenox was in charge of arrangements. on July 16, 1980.5

     Earl Raymond Burkhalter was buried at Graceland Cemetery, 1844 Cherry Street Road, Creston, Union Co., Iowa.2 He Earl Raymond Burkhalter, son of Merle Irene (Bunting) Burkhalter and Arthur Frederick John Burkhalter, was born on January 4, 1944 in Creston. He graduated from Creston High School in 1962 and went on to study at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. Earl went on to serve in the National Guard part-time for the next six years. On October 12, 1968, Earl married Phyllis Arlene Bramow in Creston. They lived and worked all of their married life in Creston. Earl worked for Boyd Construction and then for Palm Clothing as a salesman. He later worked as an Assistant Administrator at Greater Community Hospital in Creston and then with Seeger Rental. For years, he operated the scales for DeBruce, and later with CHS. Earl was a member of the First Baptist Church in Creston. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Burkhalter of Creston; a son, Brian (wife Faith) Burkhalter of Creston; two daughters, Lisa (husband David) Mixon of Tampa, Fla. and Lori (husband Corey) Bisgard of Ankeny; eight grandchildren, Ethan, Garett and Jocelyn Burkhalter, Kylie and Alyssa Mixon, Carter, Emma and Addilyn Bisgard; three brothers, Dale (wife Marilyn) Burkhalter of Elwood, Neb., Loren (wife Lucinda) Burkhalter of Chariton and Harold Burkhalter of Steamboat Springs, Colo; two sisters, Lela Burkhalter of Creston and Mary Louise Edwards of Greenwood, Ark; an aunt, LaVerne Bovaird of Prescott; two sisters-in-law, Linda (husband Joe) Bowers of Boone and Judy Starry of Omaha, Neb. and brother-in-law, Dave (wife Sue) Bramow of Elkhorn, Neb. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law, Earl & Venessa Bramow, and a brother-in-law, Paul Edwards.1 He was born on January 4, 1944 at Creston, Union Co., Iowa.1 He married Phyllis Arlene Bramow on October 12, 1968 at Creston, Union Co., Iowa.1 Earl Raymond Burkhalter died on March 7, 2015 at Union Co., Iowa, at age 71.2
