     Anna Neoma Curl Former Local Woman Dies at Lockridge. Mrs. Anna Naoma Pickens, who until a year ago was a resident of Fort Madison died at her home on a farm near Lockridge, Iowa, Tuesday. The deceased has been in poor health since last November. She was 23 years of age and is survived by her husband, John E. Pickens, formerly a boilermaker in the employ of the Santa Fe here, and two small children. The remains were brought to Fort Madison today for burial this afternoon. Interment was made in Oakland Cemetery, Rev. W.E. He served in the U.S. Army from July 24, 1943 to December 15, 1945 during World War II. While in the service he enrolled in a course in Engineering at the University of Wisconsin. James married Lois Thomas of Gorin, Missouri on July 27, 1945 in the 4th Street Methodist Church at Fort Madison, Iowa. To this union three sons were born. Jim worked for the fire department for two years and then worked construction. Most of his life he was an electrical engineer with Northwest Steel and Wire at Sterling, Illinois, retiring in 1990. Jim moved to Gorin, Missouri in August of 2006. Jim was an avid reader. He was also a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge in Illinois. Jim and Lois were together 62 years. Truly, they were the best of friends! Survivors include his wife, Lois of Gorin, Missouri; one son, Dwight A. (Tim) Branch and his wife, Penny, of Mt. Sterling, Iowa. He is also survived by the following grandsons: Sean T. Branch and his wife, Terri, of Gorin, Missouri; Shane Alan Branch of Davenport, Iowa; Ashley Glynn Branch of Norfolk, Virginia and a granddaughter, Heather Branch of San Francisco, California. Other survivors include a step-granddaughter, Maria Daughtry of Maui, Hawaii; a step-grandson, Mitchell Pinson; a sister, Sue Harvey and husband, Charles, of Luray, Missouri and two brothers-in-law, Jim Thomas of Memphis, Missouri and Gary Thomas and wife, Sharon, of Libertyville, Illinois. Many special nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and co-workers who worked with him and for him also survive. James was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, two sisters and two sons; Glynn Franke Branch and James David Branch. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2008 at the Gorin United Methodist Church in Gorin, Missouri with the Reverend Barb Hagerla officiating. Vocalist will be Teresa Sears. Inurnment will follow in the Gorin Cemetery. on May 22, 2008.⁴

She was a member of the Baptist Church. She is survived by a son, Leslie Frank Branch of Bernice, Okla., three daughters: Judith K. Smith of Eudora, Kan., Nancy Lee Schaefer of Kearney, Mo. and Kathy L. Troll of Spring Hill, Kan., eight grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a stepson, a sister and one grandson. Funeral services were scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13 at the Bruce Funeral Home in Gardner, Kan. She will be buried in the Gardner Cemetery. on August 13, 2003.¹
