He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Pulaski, Va; he graduated from Radford University with a B.S. degree and was an office manager for Corning Cable Systems in Winston Salem. Mr. Pickerel was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents; Jesse and Nannie Lou Via and his paternal grandparents; William and Ella Pickerel. In addition to his parents he is survived by his wife of 20 years, Glenda Rorrer Pickerel, a daughter; Shannon Pickerel, and a son; Jesse Pickerel. Funeral services for Mr. Pickerel will be at 2:00 PM on Monday October 20, 2008 at Woolwine United Methodist with Pastor Jack Hyde and Pastor David Lones officiating, burial will be at Woolwine Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6 to 8 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart and other times at the home place in Woolwine. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Relay for Life of Patrick County, American Cancer Society, c/o Cathy Adams, 35 Goblintown Rd. Stuart, Va 24171. on October 19, 2008.4

She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Danny Bruce Rakes; their two sons, Daniel Rakes and Joe Rakes (Daphne); sisters, Neda Rook (Aubry), Ruby Wright, and Nancy Buckland (Donnie); brothers, Roger St. Clair (Carol), and Raymond St. Clair (Helen); brother and sisters-in-law, Ron and Kitty Rakes, and Eden Rakes; grandchildren, Raymond (Amanda), Danielle, Erika, Dustin, and Natalie; special uncle, Joe Sowers; many cousins, many nieces and nephews; special niece, Doris Dickerson; and special nephew, Butch Wright. The family would like to thank special friend Lita King. Sally was a member and treasurer of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, leading Christmas shoe boxes, Thanksgiving boxes, Vacation Bible School and more. She was a wonderful homemaker, caring for her two sons and playing an active role in all their extracurriculars as they grew up, including pack leader of Cub Scout Pack #277, and ran concessions at the school. She then took on the role of grandmother and loved her grandchildren more than life itself. She is a cancer survivor. on January 2, 2020.2

Edean will be remembered for her love of family, gardening and cooking, especially her cakes. She loved God, her church family and being a Sunday School teacher. Thanks to Angie, Sarah and Shannon with Good Samaritan Hospice and the Heritage Hall staff and all who made Mom's days better during her battle with ALS. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 26, 2021, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. Born on Sept. 30, 1930, in Chincoteague, he was the son of the late Lloyd J. and Elsie Bloxom Hudson. For many years he was the owner and operator of Hudsons Heating and Plumbing in Chincoteague. He retired as custodian for Chincoteague Elementary School after 14 years of service. He will be remembered for his decoy carvings, a 3rd generation carver, a grandson of the late Ira D. Hudson, a well-known Duck carver from Chincoteague. He was a past councilmen and vice-mayor for the town of Chincoteague. He was a member of Accomac Lodge #243 AF & AM, Island Commandary #34, Accomack Chapter #62 Order of Eastern Star, Chincoteague Royal Arch Chapter #75, Eastern Shore of Virginia Shrine club Khedive Temple A.A.O. N.M. S. He was a member of Union Baptist Church. He also attended Island Bapitst Church in Chincoteague. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Alice; two sons; two daughters; two brothers; one sister; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Daniel Joel; a brother, Jimmy Hudson; and four sisters, Ruth Hudson, Lula Singer, Pat Walker, and Betty Singer. Several Nieces and Nephews. A funeral service was held on Saturday, March 22, at 2 p.m. at Island Baptist Church, Chincoteague. Pastor Rick Foster officiated. Interment was in the Downing Cemetery, Oak Hall. on April 1, 2008.3
