Samples, 94, of St. Albans, formerly of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away February 25, 2011, at Teays Valley Center, Hurricane. Born October 7, 1916, in Red Sulphur Springs, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late, Henry Carl Dillon and Mary Rosebell Hall Dillon. In addition to her parents, Nena was preceded in death by her husband, Loyal J. Samples, on January 1, 1999; cherished daughter, Marie Ann Knight, on February 16, 2008; beloved son-in-law, Gene Michael Knight, on May 2, 2006; and Marie's sister by choice; Dawn Day Calabrese on July 7, 2010. Dawn's surviving husband is Thomas Calabrese of Hurricane. Nena leaves behind her great-niece, Melissa Milam and husband, Michael, of Hurricane; her great-great-nieces, Alexis and Brooklyn Milam; and her great-great nephew, John Charles Bush. Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, February 28, at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, 409 Sixth Ave., St. Albans. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service Monday at the funeral home. Special thanks go to HospiceCare, especially Nena's nurse, Linda Greenlee, who stayed with Nena until the end, and all the nurses, CNA's and staff of Teays Valley Center, who took great care of Nena before her journey home. Memorial contributions in memory of Nena T. Samples may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2219 22nd St., Nitro, WV 25143. on February 27, 2011.5

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry C. and Mary Rosabelle Hall Dillon; her husband, Luther F. Evans; an infant daughter, Christine Evans; and, a son, Robert L. Evans. She is survived by her children, Wilma J. Evans of Martinsburg, Wanda K. Wolfe of South Carolina, Marshall L. Evans of St, Albans, and Charles R. Evans of Georgia; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 10, 2011, at King-Mullins Cemetery, Bomont. Matics Funeral Home, Inc., Clendenin, is assisting with local arrangements. on December 4, 2011.5
