Chatham, 44, an official of the Public Service Electric and Gas company since 1922, plunged to his death in Pine street today, police said, from a 12th story window at the rear of the Public Service office building in Park Place. Public Service officials said Chatham, assistant superintendent of electric distribution for the company's Passaic division since 1940, had been in poor health in recent months. He was named superintendent of the Passaic division, effective June 16, after the retirement of the present superintendent, George S. Curtis. A Public Service spokesman said Chatham went to the 12th floor office this morning some minutes in advance of the time set for a conference he was to attend. When others to attend, the conference arrived, the spokesman said, they found the hall door locked on the inside. Police said Chatham's brief case was found in Pine street near the body. Chatham, who was born in Pennsylvania and was a graduate of Wllliamsport, Pa., high school and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, became affiliated with Public Service, in 1922 as cadet engineer. A resident of Pomander Walk, Nutley, Chatham is survived by his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Reed Chatham, and a 13 year old daughter, Encie Lou. on June 8, 1945.4
