She taught school in Iowa for many years.She married her husband, Waldo Mick, also a teacher and school administrator, in 1938. Waldo preceded her in death in 1994, but not before they traveled extensively around the U.S. and Canada, wintering in Arizona. In 1996, Dodie moved to Spokane to be closer to her son, Tom, his wife, Colleen, her two grandchildren, Sandy (Keith) and Jonathan (Gwen) and her great-grandchildren Jalisa, Darius, Katie, Julia and Anna. Dodie was known for her positive attitude, patience, laughter, thriftiness and common sense, not to mention her cooking skills. Wherever she went, fried fish, beef roast, butterscotch pie, Swedish rye bread and cinnamon rolls, would follow. Loved dearly by her family, she will be laid to rest in the plot next to her husband in the Swede Valley Church Cemetery in Ogden, Iowa during the summer. on April 8, 2012.²
