He was a partner in Walkertown service center for 25 years, retiring in 1985, and he also retired from the Belews Creek volunteer fire and rescue department, where he served as chief for 13 years. He was a member of Belews Creek United Church of Christ, where he served on the board of trustees and as a deacon. He is survived by his wife, Martha Kelley Fare of the home; daughters, Alison P. Fare of McLeansville, Courtney Fare Bullard and husband, James Albert Bullard II, and one grandson, Tyler James Bullard, all of Walnut Cove; one sister, Lois Fare Martin of Belews Creek; and a number of nieces and nephews. on August 7, 1997.6

Swanson, son of Charles and Rose Swanson, was born December 23, 1924, and passed away at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska, November 11, 1940, aged 15 years, 10 months and 18 days. Laverne was injured in an auto accident Sunday evening, November 10, at about 4:15 P. M. and never regained consciousness before death called him. He was a member of the sophomore class of the Litchfield High School. He had taken an active part in all the sports of the school and will be greatly missed by all his school mates. He leaves to mourn his passing, his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Swanson; five sisters: Gwenivere, Bernadine, Phyllis, Patsy and Norma Jean; his grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Ellsworth, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services for the deceased were held Thursday afternoon, November 14, at 2:00 P. M. at the high school auditorium, conducted by Rev. Fred Johnson of Wood River, Nebraska. Interment was in the Litchfield cemetery. In behalf of the citizens of this village and community, the Monitor extends condolence to the family in their hour of bereavement. in November, 1940.3 He died on November 11, 1940 at Kearney, Buffalo Co., Nebraska, at age 15.1,3

She was born Oct. 14, 1938, in Litchfield to Charles H. and Rose (Ellsworth) Swanson. On Sept. 1, 1957, she married LeRoy K. Lammers in Litchfield. Survivors include her husband; daughters, Shellie Ingersoll and her husband, Odee, of Kearney and Cynthia of Grand Island; grandchildren, Matthew, Courtney, Jordan and Rene' of Kearney; and sisters, Bernadine Alexander of Des Moines, Iowa, Phyllis Rasmussen and her husband, Wendell, of Hazard and Pat Aden of Maryville, Ill. She attended school in Litchfield and was a graduate of Litchfield High School in 1956. She and LeRoy lived in Kearney where they were members of the Kearney Evangelical Free Church. She was preceded in death by her son, Mitch on Feb. 7, 1981; brother, Lavern; and sister, Gwen Eastabrooks. Memorials are suggested to the Collage Center or the Kearney Evangelical Free Church. on June 19, 2013.4

Survivors include her sisters, Norma Lammers of Kearney, Phyllis Rasmussen of Hazard, Bernadine Alexander of Des Moines, Iowa, and Patsy Aden of Bethalto, Ill. Additional survivors include her brothers-in-law, LeRoy Lammers of Kearney, Wendell Rasmussen of Hazard and Robert Alexander of Des Moines; and sister-in-law, Myra Snyder of Sheridan, Wyo. She graduated from Litchfield High School in 1940 and taught in the Litchfield and Pleasanton areas for one year. She moved to California in 1941 to be with her fiancé. She worked at Cole's in Los Angeles and as a dietitian in the Los Angeles school district. She and her husband lived in California until they moved to Kearney in 1984. She loved dogs. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; son, Rodney; brother, LaVerne; and brother-in-law, Merle Aden. Memorials are suggested to St. Luke's Good Samaritan Village. on July 14, 2007.3
