     Rev. Austin Dale Payne Austin Dale Payne, 86, of Rockville, passed away peacefully Thursday morning June 20, 2019, in his residence. He was born January 16, 1933, in Lena, Indiana, son of William Ralph Payne and Thelma (Bell) Payne. Dale graduated from Van Buren High School in 1951. He entered the U.S. Army in April of 1953, serving in Korea in the mortar division. He was honorably discharged in April 1955. He returned to Clay County, attended Indiana Teacher College in Terre Haute, and received a bachelor's degree in science. He married Judy Spear in 1958 and moved to Rockville to start his professional education career, and continued on to earn his masters degree in Public School Administration. Dale taught U.S. Government, U.S. History, and Economics until 1972 when he became a High School Academic Counselor, always helping students with their future career choices. He retired in 2002 after 44 years. Dale served as a minister at many Methodist churches in West Central Indiana for 50 years. He was a member of the International Faith Ministries and "Yoked in Christ Ministries", being involved with missionary work. He loved ministering for the Lord and was a man of prayer. He loved working at home in his flower and vegetable gardens. Dale loved all of his Rockville High School students. His greatest satisfaction was his compassion to help meet the needs of many people. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Kendra A. (Payne) Engrissei in 2003. Three brothers: Wendell, James, and Kenny Payne, and a sister, Berneita Payne. Dale is survived by his wife of 61 years, Judy (Spear) Payne and a son, Kevin Payne of Rockville. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery in Brazil with Military Honors.2 He was buried at Calcutta Cemetery, Calcutta, Clay Co., Indiana.2 He was born on January 16, 1933 at Lena, Parke Co., Indiana.2 He married Judy Spear in 1958.2 Rev. Austin Dale Payne died on June 20, 2019 at Rockville, Parke Co., Indiana, at age 86.2

He had been a resident at the Clay Health Center and the Exceptional Living Center for the past seven years. Nobe was born in Parke County, the son of George Washington Butler and Henrietta Thomas Butler. He worked on the family farm and in coal mining for several years. He was the manager for the City Coal Yard for 43 years. Following retirement, he worked as a crossing guard for the Eastside School children. At the age of 34, he joined the U.S. Marines. Even though he was past the age of enlistment and had flat feet, the Marines did take him, but wouldn't allow him to go overseas. But staying stateside ended up being a landmark of his life. He was in the Marine Corp Honor Guard at the funeral services of the late President Franklin D. Roosevelt in Washington, D.C. He was honored to have participated in the ritual of funeral services for the nation's President. He was a member of the American Legion Post #2, and he and his wife Bonnie enjoyed spending time at a cabin in Mansfield. Nobe was a man who worked hard, was devoted to his family and enjoyed lively conversation. He was agreeable with his time at the nursing home, due to the care and the friendships he made over the years. He was grateful to all his dear caregivers and those who had become friends. Survivors include his daughter Ruthann Jeffries, Brazil, grandchildren Tanya and Brent Baker, Steve and Tedra Butler, Brad and Lori Butler, Keri and Brian Rafferty, great-grandchildren Kade Baker, Kayla Chiles, Cole Butler, Jessica Butler, Megan Butler, Alexis Butler, Ella Rafferty and Ava Rafferty, several nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years Bonnie Mae Daniels Butler, Oct. 15, 1984, a son Dale Butler, brother John Franklin Butler, and special friend Marion Murphy, five sisters Frances Butler, Opal Smith, Bay Elliot, May Trump and Mary Emrich. Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m., at Lawson-Miller Chapel, with Rev. William Price officiating. Burial will follow at Summit Lawn Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be provided by American Legion Post #2 and VFW #1127. Visitation will be Friday, from 4-8 p.m., and again one hour prior to services. Memorial contributions may be made to Riley Hospital for Children, 50 S. Meridian, Suite 500, Indianapolis, Ind. 46202.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Randy Butler; one daughter, Terri Anderson; five sisters, Mary Emory, Opal Smith, Florence Bay Elliott, Frances Butler and May Trump; and one granddaughter, Kristen McKee. He attended Van Buren High School. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army until his discharge as a corporal in 1946. He was a member of Brazil Bible Fellowship Church. Funeral services are 1 p.m. Monday in Moore Funeral Home in Brazil, with the Revs. Gordon Nelson and Jim Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in Summit Lawn Cemetery. From the age of 20, he was involved in the car business. He worked in his profession until becoming ill this past September. He was born in Brazil on Aug. 11, 1935, the son of George Noble Butler and Bonnie Mae Daniels Butler. He is survived by his father; three children, Steven Dale Butler and wife Tedra of Louisiana, Bradley Cole Butler and wife Lori of Florida, and Keri Rafferty and husband Brian of Kentucky; sister, Ruthann Jeffries of Brazil; and friend, Denny Wolverton of Brazil. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Jessica, Cole, Megan, Lexie Jo, and Ella; and his niece, Tanya Baker, her husband Brent and their son Kade Baker. He was preceded in death by his mother. Graveside services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Summit Lawn Cemetery, with the Rev. William Price officiating. Friends may gather at the cemetery for a final farewell for Dale from 1:30 p.m. until time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Riley Children?s Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the cemetery. Lawson-Miller Chapel assisted with arrangements.
