Jimmie Livingston "Jim" Troke Jimmie "Jim" Livingston Troke, 78, longtime Gilchrist Co. resident, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 24th, with family by his side in Trenton. Jim was born on May 13th, 1937, in New Castle, PA, to Ernest & Geraldine (Ernie & Gen) Troke (their only child). He was raised in the towns of Sharon & Leepr of Western Pennsylvania, graduating from Hickory High School of Sharon in 1955. He also attended Admiral Farragut Academy of St. Petersburg in 1949-1951. Jim then graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy in 1957, with a two-year A.A. degree. After Valley Forge, he then actively served with the U.S. Coast Guard from 1957-1961 (then on reserve until 1964), where he proudly served his country mainly in the New York/New Jersey coast-area. After active service he along with his first wife (Gail) and son (Paul) moved to Pasco Co., FL, to be near his parents. By 1962, he had begun his long career with Florida Power Corp., starting first in Clearwater, then in New Port Richey up to 1973, and from Dec. 1973 to retirement in Feb. 1994, as the FPC District Manager for the Trenton Cross City District. After retirement, he continued to work as a licensed realto (and Co-Owner/bookkeeper) with Troke Realty, Inc. in Trenton, as a family business together with his wife (Jean) and son Paul. In his 43-years here in Gilchrist Co., Jim will be remembered for his always-there smile & unwavering community spirit, where he was active in many local groups, activities & fund-raisers. He was a member of the Trenton First United Methodist Church, the Trenton Rotary Club (where he served as President), Capital City Bank's Board-of-Directors (and its predecessor, Trenton's Farmers & Merchants Bank), the Dixie/Gilchrist/Levy Tri-Counties Board of Realtors (where he was an officer & director), and was involved in the 1970's beginnings of what became the Gilchrist Co. Recreational Authority. He was also a strong supporter of the Trenton High School athletic & band booster(s) organizations, especially during his children's years in school there. He also was a longtime counselor with the Gilchrist Co. NAB (Neighborhood-Accountability) Board, to advise/help troubled County students; he also was involved with the Gilchrist-area Quit-Doc program, to help in eliminating youth/young-adult smoking, dipping & chewing. Jim was also heavily involved in the Gilchrist Co. Chamber of Commerce over the past 40+ years, especially after his FPC retirement (as well as a member of both the Chiefland & Fanning Springs Chambers); he was forever grateful, of receiving both the yearly Gilchrist Co. Citizen of the Year & J. Min Ayers Lifetime Achievement awards from that organization over time. He also considered it a great honor from the citizens of Gilchrist Co., to continue to serve as one of the Master-of-Ceremonies at the yearly County Chamber Dinner up to & including 2016. Jim was diagnosed with cancer in 2000, and became actively involved from that year on with the Tri-County Relay-for-Life cause & yearly event, which began a Gilchrist Co. based event soon after. Jim was very proud to attend & walk the Survivors' Lap at each Gilchrist held Relay (up until this May's upcoming Relay). On a lighter note, he loved the "G"s in his life: God first, Gators, Golf (and a little Gambling, when his wife Jean would allow him to!) He will be remembered as a loving & compassionate husband, father, "Papa" & friend. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Jean Costigan Troke, of Rock Bluff; 2 sons; Paul Troke of Trenton, and Todd (Jennifer) Troke of Silver Spring, MD; one daughter, Kimberly Troke of Tallahassee; and his treasured grand-children, Blythe, Campbell & Kensey. He also had 2 step-sisters, Mary Arnoni Burnett of Altamonte Springs, and Donna Arnoni Schaeffer of Healdsburg, CA (and niece Erika), and two sisters-inlaw, Maureen Costigan of Lakeland, and Sheila Costigan Berglund of La Grand, OR (along with niece Lindsay & nephew Jimmy) We also were extremely proud of three younger Gilchrist Countians, who Jim & Jean had "adopted" over time here, and were always around for him on his behalf: Dale Bryant Anderson, Todd Troyer, and his "wild child" Steve Gardner, who became their local "guardian angels". Their love & generosity towards Jim & family will always be appreciated, and remembered as part of the larger Troke family. "Mr. T" will sadly be missed by many of us, but we were blessed to know this special man, yet his legacy will live on with each of us.4 He was born on March 13, 1937 at New Castle, Lawrence Co., Pennsylvania.4 He married Nancy Gail Straat in December, 1958 at Orange Co., Florida.3 Jimmie Livingston "Jim" Troke married Jean Marie Costigan on April 16, 1983 at New Port Richey, Pasco Co., Florida.3,4 Jimmie Livingston "Jim" Troke died on March 24, 2016 at Trenton, Gilchrist Co., Florida, at age 79.4
